Chesterfield
Weve made an addition to the site that should prove very useful for many of our members. RSS feeds. These "feeds" allow you to keep up to date with the forum using news tickers, especially useful for those who wish to keep up to date with350z-uk.com while on the move using your mobile devices. These same feeds can be useful for those who dont want to use an internet browser window open to the site all day long. If you can have a news ticker on your pc while going about your day to day work, you need never miss a new post or important announcement on 350z-uk.com again. Below are instructions for setting up access to these feeds on your Iphone. Im using a free RSS reader in this example, but feel fre to use your own. Firstly, download and install the free RSS reader for the Iphone: Once installed and running you will see the screen below. Tap the + button at the top left, and you are ready to add feeds from this site.. To add a feed from 350z-uk.com, rather than add the direct feed link, we can browse to the site to pick from a number of feeds - enter the forum URL into the box as below: Tap done, and you will be taken to the forum index, which will show a message stating that 3 feeds are found, click the + button (top right to add one) When you click that + button, you will be taken to a page listing three feeds at the bottom: 350z-uk.com, News, and All topics. The function of each of these is as follows: 350z-uk.com: This will show the last 20 posts on the site regardless of topic. News: This will show the last 15 announcements (look here for the latest shows and discounts) All Topics: This will show the last 15 topics created and the first post of each. In this example I've chosen All topics and it has been added to my index page as below: I can now see the last 15 topics posted by clicking the 350z-uk.com item in my list - and here they are displayed on the iphone: When you read an item, it displays very clearly on the screen too: If you want to read further than the first post, click the "view website" link at the bottom left - then simply, "back" to get back to the list. For those wanting the direct RSS links to use on desktop applications, they are: http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/feed.php = last 20 posts http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/feed.php?mode=news = last 15 announcements http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/feed.php?mode=topics = last 15 topics created
Gaz Walker
It's all well and good, but you can't reply lol! Can this forum software support multi skins like vbb where you can get a proper mobile version of the forum?
Chesterfield
Yes it can support multiple skins, looking at a mobile skin is one of the ongoing projects. The RSS/ATOM Feeds, are just a way of keeping up to date - if you wish to reply, just click the "safari" button on the bottom right (if using the iphone) and it will take you to the web page to reply Proper mobile skin as an option is being looked at though

Chris`I
It just feeds the latest posts to an RSS reader, like getting headlines to your phone, you just get the latest post/announcement.

Chris`I
bit odd though ... it came up with the thread "black roof" thats on the 3rd page of new posts..? Not sure how it works, its a built in feature of phpBB which was in the new release. Chris may be able to help explain whats in each feed. Which one are you looking at? Chesterfield
There is a slight delay, however it also depends on how often whichever application you are working with refreshes is source. The one shown for the iphone, you have to do a manual refresh on. Others for different platforms will refresh automatically. Hope that helps
