whitey
I will have a look for the models when i get home. *NB ANYONE ATTEMPTING ONE OF THESE BOXES - you need to be super carefull with subwoofer depth. At the angle that the sub sits, the magnet is extremely close to the base of the box, and if you make the box deeper then it doens't fit in the space. It is very, very close and from memory took around 4 or 5 design itterations over several weekends untill i cracked it. Ikarus, that would be great thanks. I would then be able to maximise my design, work out the volume, and choose a sub to suit. I'd then CAD model the sub as well to check it clears etc

maz0
Wow this is dynamite It is indeed, im just hoping ikarus decides to knock a few up and sell them otherwise my heads going to explode hertzes and stuff everywhere
Rob_Quads
ikarus - Very nice bit of work there. Impressed with the CAD work and also the small enclosures. I wanted to build something similar for a 10" sub but there is just not the space really. I have 'virtually' sealed up the enclosure to the required space but still want to change it. Need something to take the deeper H2 sub Nice boot build as well. You got any pictures?
ikarus
Wow this is dynamite It is indeed, im just hoping ikarus decides to knock a few up and sell them otherwise my heads going to explode hertzes and stuff everywhere Thanks guys, spent a LOT of time on this install, the pain was in the design more than the build. I could be convinced to put a few together but it would depend on interest and of course time & cost. I could figure out the latter but I would need to see if there's significant interest first tbh, i would want to do a batch in one hit IF i were to do it. Also, my enclosures were designed for a JL8w3v2 subwoofer - it would need to be determined whether other subs would fit - it's all posible.. Shaun1982
If you could do a stealthy job for a 12 Kicker L7 & an Audiobahn amp the size of a pillow on your bed id be amazed
ikarus
If you could do a stealthy job for a 12 Kicker L7 & an Audiobahn amp the size of a pillow on your bed id be amazed ..that would be very tricky Seriously though, there's always a way to achieve good bass. Like all engineering problems it's a matter of compromise.. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs ... age_id=245 ^ these interest me, haven't heard one yet but might be worth further investigation. Shaun1982
Id looked at them before i think, pretty expensive iirc? Looking at the chart theyle run 250 rms safely. Tis a big drop from my 750rms Kicker.lol, mind you i used to have a couple of w3s which were great considering they were only 300 rms a piece
andlid
Hi Ikarus, have you thought about selling those drawings??? Well done to the drawings, did you use any software to find the correct operation volume and length of the tubes or did you design it per volume only? In the past I've used professional services to actually calculate the best volume/size etc that went with the subwoofer that I got (since they are different for each of the subwoofers you look at really...) cant even remember what software they where using but lots of different algorithms to take into account. Well done!
yokomo
box calcs are pretty simple as long as you stick to either ported or sealed and dont trya dn go crazy wiht bandpass etc etc plenty of free stuff out there to do the work you just chuck in the subs specs. Ikarus. top work there getting them made so well , nice deisgn too

They look like a good compromise when space is tight, would have considered a pair of them in my MR2 if they were about in those days. They usually puch above their weight too. Well done! Thanks, maybe i would sell them if somebody wanted them, i need to update all the CAD models to 'as fitted' as some minor alterations were necessary during installation. Wouldn't take too long to do though if someone were interested. I did use software to design all of the enclosures, i used bass box 6 pro and winISD comparitively for volume and port length etc. and also some additional software for calculating port flare to avoid port noise (can't remember the name). Then obviously 3D cad software to model everything and measure volume to match the design requirements. The boot enclosure design got quite complicated because i needed to gain as much volume as possible to get the tuning low. It all worked out very well, but then i have been working on this for quite some time, i think last Aug i began planning End result is a very clean dynamic bass response. box calcs are pretty simple as long as you stick to either ported or sealed and dont trya dn go crazy wiht bandpass etc etc plenty of free stuff out there to do the work you just chuck in the subs specs.Ikarus. top work there getting them made so well , nice deisgn too Thanks, and yes agreed, bandpass seems to get quite complicated quite quickly - never gone down this route. Ported and sealed are very well established methods so you know what you are going to get within reason - and if not, someone else does

I had to purchase another blank cover from Nissan to finish the side which had the glove box, but it wasn't expensive and the end result was what i wanted. It actually took about a month to design and refine these untill the fit was just right, plus i used 3D CAD to ensure the volumes were perfect for the subwoofers. The idea at all times was to look 'in keep' with the car - ie not too much flash, but also get the build quality and volume spot on for optimum performance. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted004.jpg Space for encolsures http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/cabinenclosures009.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted001.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted008.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted013.jpg In location http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted015.jpg Cut and edged Nissan trim http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted016.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted018.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh85/dm_ikarus/350z/350zICE/CabinSubsFitted024.jpg As per CAD design, total stealth no flash install P.S. At the same time I thought could I fit second sub and would it make an improvement. They I stumbled across your post. Great job by way. Do u find a major enhancement with dual subs.
