HaydnH
Looking back at all the shares I've sold over the last 18 months, the vast majority are now worth more than when I sold and I would have done just as well by holding. The last few years have hardly been normal circumstances though, for example the FTSE 100 was at 6500 ish in 2008, dropping to 3500 in 2009 and is now back up to around 6000. I'd be very cautious about planning investments on the gains you've made recently.
gazhull8474
I'm interested in this thread as well. Read the whole way through and recognise that there is risks to be taken in this field. Got a couple of questions though and sorry if they sound stupid. 1. How much should you look to spend starting off 1k 2k? 2. Which is the best sites to buy and sell on. 3. what money does the tax man want to take of you each month. Would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks Gaz

srobrien
I just started dabbling a few months ago and have made a bit of cash already. Started out with BPC bought in at 12p and sold at 18p, sold them all and bought into herencia HER.L a startup mining company, they look VERY promising, so bought 100,000 shares at 2p , already gone up 2p in a few weeks with big news on the horizon hopefully. Don't spend anything! Register at http://www.shareprice.co.uk and build a dummy Portfolio of 5-10 stocks and "buy" £1,000 of each stock. Watch your choices for a month and see what happens. All for free. 2. There are loads. Google "self-trade stocks and shares". Some are http://www.hargreaves-lansdown.co.uk. 3. No tax! Buy ISA-able shares and it's tax free. You can invest £10,200 this year and £10,680 in April. PS - Read the whole thread as I've answered these queries about 3 times before. XEL waiting for 3rd party confirmation on just how BIG their recent North Sea oil find was and RRL have a lot of news due from multi sites worldwide. I also hold AEX, CAZA, CRND, GKP and XTR. Speak to you very soon mate RRL looks VERY promising. Just had their drilling rights extended by the Somalian government and Africa Oil (drilling partner) are committed to drilling 2 new wells for them by September. That little space in your garage might have the Cayman S/Z4M in it sooner than you think. Don't worry, I'll leave the keys in it............. Mind you, if I play this year right, it's a GT-R..........or a 997......or (takes deep breath) Gallardo.

I'm not really sure about how to go about with this even after reading this thread. So any advice would be brilliant and appreciated alot! So any advice would be brilliant and appreciated alot! Thanks as said above I have a few grand in Herencia resources (HER.L), they are sitting at about 3.5p at the moment and they are due imminent news about their first mining prospect, if the survey comes back good their SP could jump a few pennies making for a pretty decent short term investment. Im new to this so thats my tip but read back through captains posts he has mentioned a few companies on his watch list so have a look at them on the http://www.iii.co.uk website and do some research (you can also set up a trading account with them I believe). You have done it recently so i suspect that you have it fresh in you head I can show you no no bother mate I am using TDWaterhouse to invest as they are quite reasonable and easy enough to use. Most important thing is you set up an ISA account as it is free from CGT. I think captain will be along to correct me if I am wrong but I don't think it is too late to get in on RRL. They only broke 10p today - plenty more action to come if I am not mistaken!
