350 Russ
ive got a few light scratches on my headlights, is there anyway of polishing it out or flatting it back and getting it back to the way it should be?
Tricky-Ricky
The plastic can be sanded using say 600/800 grit wetndry, then you can either machine polish or do it by hand, with G3.
Dblock
as said above but I might even go up to 1200. Make sure you tape off any bits you dont want to sand. Then get an abrasive polish and work it in with a rotary or a DA. You could do it by hand but it would take ages.
Jammy007
are the lights not laquered as I had an FTO and the laquer was the main problem. I'd be worried that I removed some of the laquer but not it all, possibly leading to future problems maybe? I have a few scratches on my lights and don't fancy trying this myself...... would a body shop do it for me and what do you reckon they'd charge? Cheers, Jamie

Jammy007
If you have time and effort on your side, I have tidied my lights up with this: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/engine-am ... d_283.html did you use an orbital to clean them up or by hand? I'm just a bit scared about going down the wet and dry route. Thanks for the info aswell Husky. Has anyone tried a wet and dry method and had good results? Does this cause any problems in the future and does anyone know if there is a laquer over the headlight plastic?
IanS
By hand, 10 minutes with a microfibre cloth will give you positive results. I took this route before the more aggressive sanding options.
Husky
you can get hold of 1500 wet and dry from halfords, i would say go for the highest number possible so there is less buffing/polishing to do later.
Jammy007
I used the plastx that my mate had left over from trying to sort the lights on his fto. seems to have worked although haven't had a really sunny day. Looks good so far though. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the tips guys
rtbiscuit
600/800 seems a little agressive would go 1500 and work up to 2500 then finish off with a polish compound
Cookbot
I've got a kit used to polish scratches out of aircraft canopies that goes up to 8000. If you can find something similar then go for that.

Cookbot
Usually use it for lovingly polishing my Breitling watch. If I remember rightly, I think it's about £600 a meter and its only about 12" wide. Costly stuff, but all good when its free.
