martinopy
I'm starting to think it's time to change. I love the z and it was my realistic dream car when I bought it but lately I'm getting a bit fed up with it. I had a run in a remapped 335d coupe and all I can say is WOW! The thing absolutely flies compared to the z, is under half the price for a years tax, is a nicer environment to be in, gets well over 30mpg even when pushed and is probably more practical. The big problem is I'd hate to get rid of the z and end up regretting it, anyone else had this dilemma?
Stew
All the time. Then I go for a blast and fall in love all over again. Cruise down town and people stare (probably because it isn't an Aston!) Then I think, why the hell would I sell it?
Andy
+1, think about it all the time. My brother has just recently sold an E60 535d and it was without a doubt the nicest drive of any car I have driven but for smiles per mile, I just couldn't chop my Z in for one. martinopy
I'd says looks is the only thing currently making me want to keep the z but admittedly is probably one of my biggest factors in a car so I really don't know what to do. I quite like the autovogue 335d coupes and think that looks wise they're up near the z.
Andy
I agree, I think they do look good, expecially with the optional 19" rims and the M-Sport kit.
andlid
Love some of the BMW's to be honest but I would'nt go trading the Z for one. Might trade the Altezza for one though! Do you want to get the BM image? (not sure you got one up NI... down here the have one) A
mbs
Took my Zed out today for the first time since November. Went to see a client and followed a guy out of their office, I was parked next to him (530 salooon), he looked at the Zed and his words were " seen one of those in a mag but never in the flesh beautiful car you must be proud of it" no joke those were his actual words. Thats why I can't sell the Zed when I know I should move on after 5 years ownership.
Digsy
The BM's are ruthlessly efficient at what they do and that diesel engine is a gem but they lack the character and passion the Zed has in spades. If you're getting bored of the Zed now, I'll give you 3 months in a 335d!
Dblock
335d are fast as anything but IMO a petrol drives better in the twisties as in a diesel you always run out of revs. All IMO.

Cruise down town and people stare (probably because it isn't an Aston!) Then I think, why the hell would I sell it? Same thing goes through my mind at least twice a day Too rare a coupe where I am and never to be reproduced. I've only ever seen one other on the roads around here, and my spanner of a mate who lives 30 miles away just bought one, same colour as mine too Other than that, why suffer such a loss to px, when the car is every bit as good as it was when you bought it. When you're sixty, these'll be for sale for more than their original price tag I reckon.
CaptainSensible
I can't beleive no one's mentioned NOISE! Could you really exchange the sound of that creamy V6 for a clattery diesel?

Ekona
If you think it's time to move on, then it probably is. I get bored of cars pretty quickly which annoys the missus but pleases the bank manager no end, and I've yet to regret selling up and moving on. There's so many different types of car to own out there, and no matter how good the Zed is there's always something better/different out there that should be tried. 335ds are great cars and poky as anything, not a bad thing to move on to at all

LRF4N
theres some cars that will be faster than the zed, others will be more comfortable, or more efficient etc etc but for the full package and for the price theres not many that come close to the zed we will all move on at some point and my next car will be more comfortable, more efficient, better build quality but wont be just quite as good looking, less value for money and doesnt have the same driver enjoyment as the zed but depends wot boxes u have to tick autovogue 3 coupes are stunning tho lol
MattMe
I've been looking around recently. I don't often keep cars for more than a year (although I did promise the missus I'd keep this one for YEARS) but I can't see anything around £10k (+ reasonable mileage) that would tempt me away right now. The Zed's a great looking/driving car and fairly practical for day-to-day kinda stuff. I looked at TVRs but they're weekend cars and you'll struggle to get a good one at 350z prices. Not fond of the S2000 engnie (and it's less practicle), Elise is even less practical and then there's the Beemers but they don't do much for me either. Plus they're everywhere... Think I'll be hanging around here for another year or so until I can get a loan for a 370z
Metatron
Having been a past Bimmer owner (last two cars before the Zed) I can say they are great all round cars and as you would expect quality engineering, comfort, safety, reliability and cost can be fairly ok if you need work doing, especially if you go to independent specialists, although saying that BMW stealers have dropped their prices so they they're semi-reasonable now. BUT......why change!!!! Zeds turn heads Bimmers are fodder! In my opinion though if you're gonna look a BM, try out the 135 M-Sport coupe, I took one out for spin when I was looking for an upgrade. I compared it with drives I took in the new M3 and 335 and to be honest the 135 blew me away. It's comparable in performance to the 335, with the bi-turbo it goes like whatsit of a shovel. It can also be used as a practical every day family car as it's a four seater and has decent boot space. Of course it doesn't quite match up to the M3 but it's close second. Even Clarkson loved the 135, said it's the best car they make and he's not exactly a BMW fan. That said the Zed beats them all hands down........it's a love thing despite all the niggles you just can't a Zed outta the system!

Ekona
If you only keep a car for a year, then you have to get an Elise/Exige/VX220. Nothing will ever come closer to driving perfection for the money, and it's an experience every one should have in their life. You can put TVRs in the same catagory really, but they're a bit more fragile than a Lotus.
scottsoulby
ive been thinking about it recently, mainly due to my high mileage, mines done 83k now, and im still commuting so ill be putting more and more on, just scared it will be worth pennies soon, if it didnt have the high mileage id never think about getting rid

yokomo
my dads got a an A4 3.0 TDi Quattro and although i havent driven it yet in car it feels as quick if not quicker in the right circumstacnes than my Z. i just never really feels like your giving it the beans even when it pulling like a train the short blips of power you get in a diesel dont compare to that racey feel of raw NA power, guess thats hwy you dont get any diesel sports cars. i mean imagine a Z with 335d+ chipped engine.. great mpg , fast , handles well and cool Z looks. you just dont have that Z growl.
