Lexx
Yeah, I owned a 231 RX8 for 4 years. Traded it in for the Zed 2 years ago. First I'll start by saying the oil thing is not an issue. and everyone who has owned one for longer than 5 minutes will agree. I used about 1 litre every 1200 miles. Which when purchasing from Opie Oils, costs bugger all really. They are quite a thirsty car, the RX8. I find that on motorway driving the Zed is much better on economy. However, the Rex is a pain in the ass to drive smothly in heavy traffic. Very jerky car. For spirited driving on twisty roads, I'll behonest and say the Rex was better than the Zed. It feels ligther and more adgile. Begging to be thrown into corners close to the redline in 3rd. The interior is better in a Rex than in early Zeds, but from 06 Id say that the Zed is better, and way more comfortable to drive. tbh, its one of those discussions that could go on forever. My suggestion would be to test drive both, on more than a few occasions, and see which one you really want to have another go in. Have a search on the forum for RX8 - you will see quite a few threads comparing them with the Zed. And many comments from former RX8 owners who have came this way. There arent many owners who went the other way.... Hope that helps Al
Marko
cheers lexx, nice to here pretty unbiased opinions of both cars! Ive managed to book a test drive of a 2008 RX8 for later today to see how it compares to the 350Z. Im not looking for an all out power machine, it has to tick all the boxes. I have searched the site for RX8, doesnt allow it as its too common a term! tried mazda and got 25 pages of results! crazy for a nissan forum! Some good info tho and I certainly have no worries going to look at either car having read so much about them on here. It is interesting how many have went from RX8 to 350Z tho! at least im looking in the right direction!
Lexx
I never got a chance to drive an R3 RX8, but have heard that the suspension is much more poised, and the interior refinement has stepped up a notch. If I wasnt going back to work tomorrow (work in Dover!) Id have taken you out in my Zed so you could have got a feel.
Marko
an nice thought, shame eh! Will report back my thoughts later, Im not really sure what to expect with the rex. Im used to high revving cars, last two have revved to 7500 and 8300 so a step to 9500 is nice
Marko
well, i took the rx8 out for a drive and i must say, im swayed much more towards that than the 350, it just felt 'nicer'. had that something the 350 lacked. still like the 350 but for now i think im going to be looking for an rx8. that is unless a z turns up at a 'too good to say no' price
Lexx
If you go onto the rx8 owners club (which Im sure you already are!), tell them I said Hi.
Marko
hey, just thought I would drop back in and give an update. still searching for the right car however I think the 350 is back as the preferred, having looked hard and long at both 350 and rx8 yes there both nice, both handle well, costs about same running wise but we (yes, the missus and I) both think if im going to get a fairly expensive, reasonably powerful car I might as well do it properly and get a V6. that and she prefers the 350z so, eyes open for a 2003-2005 GT with black leather and sat nav!!! A friend of mine owns an import company, is there anything I should look out for if I choose to import a zed? seems I could get a 2003 or so for an absolute steal of a price but having never looked at imports I need advice! Cheers again ps - lexx - still open to that offer of a look at yours? its too new for my budget but it would be nice to be shown around one by someone who knows about them, perhaps show me how to get best out of the engine too?
