HEADPHONES Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Seen a B&D portable jump starter that you charge at home, plug into 12v cig socket to boost weak car battery for 10 min then start car. But instructions say some ecu's may get damaged by use and to check owners manual to see if car is compatable. Doesn't warn anywhere in owners manual against such usage. What do you guys reckon? stanski Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Personally I wouldn't do it. The cig lighter is not really designed for high power continued use Andy which I am guessing something like that will do? Quote
givememorepower Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Why would you ever need to risk it? Quote
rtbiscuit Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 cheaper and safer just to keep some jump leads in the boot. Quote
Carbon Coops Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Used them on older cars before and they are useless!, wouldnt risk it on the Z Coops Quote
Wookiee22 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 wouldnt risk it on the Z Coops +1 I'd steer clear! Quote
ChrisS Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Just for info. The AccuMate trickle charger does'nt work via the Cig power points.I tried. It only works with the ignition in P2 well think it was P2 and I don't fancy leaving the key in the car even though it is in the garage and the garage is alarmed. Quote
HEADPHONES Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Cheers for the replies. for Black and Decker it is. Had to laugh at the info though "some vehicles may have an on board computer"........just like some cars may have lecky windows Quote
