rtbiscuit
not sure about them, but if i was to upgrade the speakers in the zed i'd stick rainbow speakers in. always been told they have outstanding quality to the sound.
Roo
+1 Rainbow are top notch. Have a couple of cmx265's (kick variant) from my old car Im trying to decide if to try and fit them, and if they will fit (and if I can be bothered!).

P15UL T
i think the rainbows are top of the range stuff at aroun £300 for a set of door speakers ( thats just from memory though and my memory is average at best) i use infinty equipment for my car and the sound is excellent and probably nearer the top of your budget http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/prod ... px?cat=COS not a bad price, but check sizes ect as i built pods for mine so im not sure what the correct fitment would be for replacing the oem units http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INFINITY-KAPPA-16 ... 56386c67db
yokomo
one set of 6.5 inch rainbows just dropping in to your budget .... http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/rainbow ... eluxe.html but as above most rainbows are onm the high side of £300 , have alisten first though as you may not like the sound. Also if your gonna spend that kind of cash on some quailty speaker what amp you got in mind to run them ?

Roo
SLX isnt a bad piece of kit. If you can stretch to is Genesis do a good line in fan cooled amps. Being fan cooled they can be stuck in positions other amps normally cook in such as under seats. Ive got one kicking around somewhere.... My advice would be:- Rainbow or JL VR speakers for that budget will sound best (make sure you have budget for speaker cable and sound deadening - a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link... ) Head unit - not bad, would go Alpine if you can get the spec you want. The sound quality is streets ahead. Amp - Again, not bad but would go JL e Series or similar if possible. The way they deliver the power offers a lot more control over the speaker, and therefore better sound. Subs - Agree with the sentiment. JL 8's can drop low as well. Also conssider a single 10". A Focal one will also do quality to a high standard too.

Thanks mate, i already have the subs, amp, cables and headunit from my last car so just needing the front speakers, i've ordered some sound deadening sheets with the speakers. Rob_Quads
Just as a followup - I have heard the focals originally posted in a Z and they are very nice. Only critisism some people have of them is they are slightly harsh but very minutely. I've got the old focal utopias in mine and love them to bits (although prefered my older 3 ways JLs)
