Paulzx
Hello all Hopefully i will soon be the proud new owner of a yellow GT4 However, i don't have any garage facilities in which to keep the car, so I'm thinking ahead and would like to ask if anyone can recommend a good place to buy a car cover, hopefully tailored to fit the car. Lots of places sell these covers but lots of em are shite too...anyone bought one that does the trick?
stanski
Personally I would'nt buy a cover - more trouble than its worth unless you live next door to an ICI chemical works or cement works?
Roo
Having covered my previous car religiously I think it does make a difference. And is especially good for when you have to leave early for a show and washed and waxed night before. The bad bit is you cant really put any of them on a wet or dirty car, which means washing and drying it everytime you want to cover it - not good for daily use! I got a generic breatheable all seasons cover. I didnt think the tailored ones would fit because of the Nismo Spoiler sticking up so just got one with a soft lining that would keep the worst of the weather out. If yours is stock may be worth looking at fitted covers but I dont know how good they actually are.
M13KYF
I bought one a couple of months back for indoor use only. Made to measure and fits really well. They do various types of external ones too. Paulzx
Personally I would'nt buy a cover - more trouble than its worth unless you live next door to an ICI chemical works or cement works? really wanted one just to protect against the rain or else it means constantly washing the car, especially in the winter weather
Chris`I
As Roo says, they are a pain in the butt. You cant put them on a dirty car, or the movement of it over the car with dirt will scratch it worse than just leaving it in the elements. Anubis
I got mine from here: http://www.specialisedcarcovers.com/ £175.95 fully waterproof, breathable and tailored with no extra cost to fit my Nismo body kit. I actually met the guy at the NEC motorshow where I ordered it and he was really nice and knew what he was doing. You can't put it on when dirty as the tiny bits of dirt may scratch the paint. Keep it clean and polished and you shouldn't have any problems at all. You can have it wet and put it on (the water will evaporate through it), but it can't be dirty. If you have anything non standard like a body kit, they will need pictures of the added extras (e.g. spoiler) with measurements, so they know how much more material they need to add on. stanski
See like I said a pain in the arse!! Seriously they are mug the same get a breathable one I have a stormforce one for my beetle while it awaits restoration but it doesn't look too tough but surprisingly it has survived 6 months outside so far? Roo
Car has to be clean - dirt could get stuck on the inside otherwise and the action of the cover shifting slightly in the wind will make it rub slowly and could scratch the paintwork. Personally I would only bother if you intend to lay your car up through bad weather as otherwise you have to wait till a dry day to wash it before you can cover it again. They do work - but may not be worth the hassle.

Basically the car will be used regularly but not everyday, so i was hoping i could keep it relatively clean by covering it after i've used it, just so the shitty weather doesn't make it dirty while it's parked. But the reality i suppose is that you can't really cover it up directly after using it on the road so it's not really any good for regular use i don't think. Thanks everyonr for the advice
Roo
Dont skimp on the wax to protect then chap and there is a member discount on paintshield if you can stretch to it which may help.

Ebized
......and if you don't have a garage where do put ithe cover when its soaking wet and without messing up your clothes in the process? I do not have a garage and my last 350 was kept outside all the time. As long as you keep it well polished and more importantly, regularly waxed, that is the best protection. When I traded in UK56ZED last month I had several comments from dealers, who were not buying, that they had not seen a shiner ZED and I don't think they believed me when I said it was kept outside. Beavis
Some of mine. She is sleeping for the winter and out of this horrible weather but shes nice and shiny underneath Got this genuine cover a few years back for £53 off ebay
Paulzx
Nice photos Dave but you have yours nicely tucked away in a garage so no problems with wind blowing off the cover etc, i would have to keep mine outside. I would have loved to have kept it looking in the same condition as yours but i fear outside i have no chance. will have to do what the guys have suggested and just keep it polished and waxed probably every week i think

Beavis
but you have yours nicely tucked away in a garage so no problems with wind blowing off the cover etc, i would have to keep mine outside. The official cover is elasticated and fits nice and tight. You can also padlock the cover on via a rope that goes under the car in the middle. I doubt vey much that it would blow off. stanski
Is that a breathable cover Dave? Car looks mint as usual - although I am a firm believer in keeping cars outside - the air flow gets rid of damp etc. But here is my poor little beetle - only got a cover to keep the kids from taking an interest in a rusty Beetle! Not sure if its breathable stan but i am sure it is. Anyhow they are normally £300+ iirc. Garage is nice and dry and car feels very dry underneath the cover. Roo
I have taken to using a couple of extra straps to hold the cover in high winds. Not that it would fly away, just lifts a bit if wind gets under. But it isn't a fully tailored one. Dug it out from under all the snow (2ft long block of ice in the dip between spoiler and hatch!). Dry a a bone underneath. And iths one of the breathable types.
