speedy
Hi guys need some help with my dads car…Although we are both fairly mechanically minded this problem has confused us….His Toyota previa is producing blue smoke out of the exhaust, not we no this (or should) be due to oil burning. However we have check the compression and values and everything is solid, well for a 100,000 engine. Can anyone give me some clues as to what the cause could be? rtbiscuit
have you checked in the spark plugs, is there any oil in there?

rtbiscuit
whats the water bottle look like, is the water clear, or is it creamy, could be the head gasket going, might cause oil to leak to the exhaust?
rtbiscuit
stanski pm'd me this Blue smoke ?? Ok could be running rich? Plugs, timing, sensor off, check oil and water levels everyday is it over / under heating? Check vacuum pipes are not perished anywhere Did it just start happening suddenly? Timing ok? Has it been serviced as required? Old micras used to have duff distributors that wore on the drive shaft but I don't know your car model unfortunately? Are the tappets erm tapping loud or quiet? might be one of those?

There is a tint of blue in the smoke, i know the white smoke is the car burning water and i would have thought after 20 min drive this would have burt off? The engine runs very smooth and has been serviced very well, all the fuild levels are fine and the water is clear...It started happing has my dad drove it down to mine about two months ago. It then sat for that time, we started it today (needed a manual turn over to get it going). Temp is fine and its not over/under heating... stanski
Ok if it's been sat for a substancial amount of time it's probably just running rich as something is probably stuck? I would say tappets but you would hear it? As mentioned check the plugs - 1 of them should look different to the others either black or oily maybe? Does it smoke when it idles or when it's accelerating only?

It smoke while it idles and alot and i me alot when under load.
Trev-the-Rev
It could be a blocked crankcase breather. Try taking the oil filler cap off with the engine ticking over and if there is smoke or vapour coming out then that will indicate back pressure.
