ttz334me
Hello all. My Z finally came in from the States, and is sitting in the garage. Pretty happy, but needs a WASH!!!! First time that car has ever seen snow... I chose the Greddy TT kit as it was more of a tuner's kit. The APS was nice, but I had built a few cars already using Greddy parts, and I felt more confortable with them (which paid off as now I have the 20g's instead of the 18g's). Not to start the whole S/C vs turbo debacle, but I've driven two S/C Z's (roots & centrifugal) and am very glad to have went the TT route. The power curve is extremely linear. ttz334me
There are a couple of pictures from a while ago here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17001&start=0 Went a cruise thing tonight in Peterborough and got some pictures (feature????) in a magazine called Max Power. Won't be driving it for a while though; boost is turned all the way down and still lots of spinnage...not to mention she's blowing really bad. Going with custom tubular manifolds here shortly and am going to add the wastegate relocation/dump pipes with better gaskets as well. gunmetalzgt
There are a few od us Zed owners in leicester, which is quite close to pterborough. Once the snows gone you should arrange to come down and see us!!
ikarus
Interesting thread.. what about traction though, what experience have people had running FI on the quarter mile? Just wondering if there is a 'limit' to how much power the zed will actually put down on a launch without spinning out? Most seriously fast cars run 4wd, but not all i know. Just wondering if there is a 'limit' to how much power the zed will actually put down on a launch without spinning out? Most seriously fast cars run 4wd, but not all i know. Good point - My 400bhp supercharged Zed wasn't significantly quicker than my previous NA Zed (300bhp approx) over the 1/4 mile 13.9 (SC) vs 14.1 (NA). This was all down to traction. In fact my previous NA Zed had a quicker 0-60 time of 5.1 secs (NA) vs 5.4secs (SC). However I've addressed this by buying a set of trackday 18's with Toyo R888's and am just now in the process of fitting a Kaaz diff so this should see my 1/4 mile times fall significantly. Next 1/4 mile isn't untill Mar though so won't know result till then. My Zed already has Tein Superstreets with EDFC and Nismo Anitroll Bars + control arms + upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel so theres not much more I can do to improve the drivetrain. That's VERY interesting... I'm thinking of going down the SC route very soon and it's good to hear info like this. It may sound weird, but have you tried to weigh down your boot and then do a 1/4 mile run? It does make a difference. The extra weight will give you more traction. I face similar problems with my progressive 100 shot. Though I have not actually measured any times yet. When doing launches with nos on I've noticed that the is constantly trying to get traction. If I leave VDC on then it simply keeps preventing the car from going, whereas if I turn it off then the car is spinning for a while. I think this has alot to do with technique as well as traction though. I find that if I launch gently and then give it the beans then it's definately quicker. What tires (and tire pressure) were you running on both runs? As far as S/C goes, there isn't much you can do in-car to adjust boost to a more usable level besides throttle modulation, but have ya'll {turbo'd guys} used scramble boost before? Steady Zeddy
[What tires (and tire pressure) were you running on both runs? ...... For the 14.1 in the NA Zed I had 275/40 18 Bridgestone Potenzas running at 22psi on the rear and 40psi on the front. For the 13.9 in the SC Zed I had 275/40 18 Goodyear F1 DSD3's running as same psi as above. Has to be said that this was a once a year 1/4 mile event and the track was very dusty both years. Traction was the big issue esp with the SC.

DR's make a difference, although I don't have experience with the r888's. Have you looked at Quick Time Pro's or MT ET street radials? Very good, and you'll definitely hook off the line. DR's would def be better alright for the 1/4 mile - but I need a tyre that'll cover the trackdays as well. I think the combination of the Kaaz diff and the R888's will significantly improve my times on both 1/4 mile and track.
