Zednick666
Having recently acquired 20mm spacers for front & 25mm for rears (from Husky & Carbon Forza, respectably, thanks ) thought what better day than a bank hol to stick them on. So round to dads to do in thge garage, first front on on no probs: Without: With: .... but then, when trying to get the driver side off, wheel nuts absolutely seized solid so I'm guessing they weren't greased last time the wheel was off. Gave the wheel brace an encouraging tap with a wheel brace, absolutely fine! Then came the locking nut, also seized tight... oops: and worse still: Now what!!?? Local charlie browns always sort me out, know the lad there, but he's sceptical about trying to chisel the casing away. Gonna call by Nissan tomorrow morning to see if they have a master set (they're Nissan supplied McGuard nuts), to at least just bang the standard nuts on or get a new set. In the meantime, I can't remove the one spacer I have fitted as the key is broken, so I have a staggered, or staggering car Also F00ked should i get a puncture. Anyone else had this happen to them?? Zednick666
Aye, not the end of the world and do-able, but just a pi$$er aint it!
Zednick666
Only tricky thing is the fact they have the spinning outer collar, had a similar problem on my Golf but different type of locking nuts and managed by tapping on a slightly smaller socket... nixy
frustrating! You'll get it sorted though.
sketch
theres a thread on here if you need some tips on getting the nut off, it from a VW site tho ... lol
Maccaman
Yeah should be alright. I had to have 4 locking nuts removed when I found the idiots at Nissan hadn't given me the socket. They just knock a socket on & remove.
Lexx
I've seen the lad in my local tyre place get a locking nut off using a pair of needle nose pliers, and 2 sets of mole grips. Quite firghtening how easily they came off actually You shouldnt have any issue getting it sorted though.
sketch
i can tell is those nuts have the swivel tpye head but if not you need a special socket that cuts into the side of the nut, ive got one at work if you were closer but most competant mechanics will have one
ian-r
The main centre section is intact so a good key to fit the nut + impact from an airgun will sort this in no time
Ashey
i would say either get it out with a impact airgun or it will have to be tapped out carefully with a small punch
Toon Chris
As you are based in Wakey you might be interested in a place in Leeds which sorted me out when i bought my car - with balding tyres and no socket for the locking nuts! It will cost yuo a tenner and will be guaranteed not to damage the wheel. http://www.lockingwheelnutremover.co.uk ... glish.html Or if you are really stuck, these people will come to you. http://www.alloyrepairuk.co.uk/index.html
edgeydt50
I bought my clio 172 without looking for the locking wheel nut key. 20 mins & £20 later down quick fit ad they were off. they had the chisel of the collar and then bash over another socket.
