Argyll
I think I have a dodgy battery as I'm having problems starting my car in the morning, particularly after a cold night. This morning I had to bump start it. However during the day it normally starts first time. I’ve just took some readings and the read 12.79 volts when engine not running and 14.69 volts when running. Are these readings okay?
Trev-the-Rev
The charging rate sounds ok. Check your connections and main earth lead and also take a reading when you're cranking the engine.
M13KYF
charging rate means nothing if the battery is still kaput.
Argyll
When I turn it at the crank it's dipping to just above 9 volts. Is it fecked or is this right? Someone reckons it should never go below 12 volts even when turning the ignition over.
Trev-the-Rev
Battery has had it by the sound of things. Should hold around 12v when cranking.
