captain
Had a K1 fitted 2 weeks ago and it's made me deaf - seriously. It's completely unusable without the bungs and even with them in, it's painfully loud and I now have permanent tinnitus and pain in my ears. Is this normal?? The booming and vibration below 3250 revs is horrible, like putting your head in one of Lemmy's speakers, above that is fine and makes a great noise, but I can't go everywhere at 4500 revs in 3rd. Has it been fitted incorrectly or am I just too old?
martinmac
They are pretty loud bud. The bungs usually tame it though.

captain
Thanks - now I know why they call you Sneaky. Snakes don't have ears.................
Ekona
Give it time and it'll settle down. It's not that loud even when brand new tbh...
captain
Mine is second hand so it has settled down. And it IS that loud. I'm 45 and went to plenty of proper rock concerts in the 80's and went clubbing (Woop Woop Whistle) in the 90's and I've never experienced pain/ringing in ears like this. If you guys are saying "it's not that loud" then I must have fitment issues. Anybody taken a decibel reading inside the cabin with a K1 so I can compare?? nurrish
It is loud.......but the owners of k1's get use to it....or get deafer
Ekona
It won't be a fitment issue: I ran my car without any exhaust on at all (just the stock cats) and it was just as loud as when I put the K1 on. The only difference was that it was more tuneful with the exhaust fitted. Sounds to me like you've made a bad purchase, probably worth selling it on and getting something a bit tamer. yokomo
got anything else fitted ? decats intake manifolds etc all bump up the volume.
captain
JWT pop charger but the noise/vibration is coming from the rear left (guessing) round about where the spare wheel sits. I've ordered some sound-proofing but if that doesn't work, I'm back to the standard zorst.
captain
PS - typing this is making my teeth ache - another "side-effect" over the last 10 days.
MITZ@CougarStore
It sounds as though the midpipe is vibrating against the subframe, sometimes they fit with the midpipe resting on the subframe and sometimes they sit just above, causing them to vibrate/resonate through the car…
3FIDDYZ
You may have rasp or vibration from touching from the heat shields... I have a nice 5zigen one for sale that is still loud, but just when it needs to be What I dont get is virtually all Zeds are the same underneath, so why dont they just make them to fit? One hits the sub frame, the other one dosnt! QC dosnt sound great...
captain
Whereabouts are the heat shields? What's the price of the 5zigen?
3FIDDYZ
heat sheild is above the rear back box and above the cats, but dont remove if they are close, you may find a seem weald may sort the rasp out. Easier to find out if its up on a ramp and reving... Looking for £500 + delivery, but at present there is a provisional sale on it. Just PM'd the guy to chase to see if he still wants it.. It's not the noise, it's the resonance. My GF (who's a bit clever) thinks it is a similar tone to the Brown Noise the CIA/FBI pumped in to Waco to make them all mental before they poured petrol on them and set them on fire.............sorry asked them to surrender and gently escorted them from the building. However, I can't make out from your e-mail whether the midpipe should or should not be resting on the subframe.
BulletMagnet
It should not be resting on the subframe
captain
Thanks - I'll take it in tomorrow and maybe get some pics. Certainly the left-hand pipe is "tight" to the body when viewed from the rear whereas the right-hand pipe is about 1.5cm lower so it's all kinda adding up. BulletMagnet
Either have the hanger heated and bent or use an old trick with tyre valves on the hanger bungs like in the pic below. Should even it out.
IanS16
My K1 was second hand yet still needed time to setle down for some reason. On the Wales run it was so loud it actually hurt but now its fine
jamakalbi
Had mine a few months now and definitely not as loud as at first but certainly still roars Have the same thing with vibrations from the mid pipe against the sub frame - only notice it when pulling away slowly in traffic or something - is a bit annoying as sounds bit grindy but more than makes up for it when you hit 3.5 on rev counter
