It is in your best interests you ensure that this is carried out. * Antifreeze only has a 2/3 year life span and requires its strength adjusting after this time or replacing as per manufacturers specifications. Turbocharger (if fitted), if this has been assessed as being satisfactory (S). This relates to its performance only, please note that on many vehicles this unit is hidden by shields/covers and potential oil leaks may not be visible. If the unit or its associated pipes are leaking oil, this will be recorded as oil leaks elsewhere Engine numbers are not checked. A/C systems require annual servicing. Ensure that this has been carried out in the past. You are advised to have the system serviced prior to purchase if no recent servicing has been undertaken. We are unable to verify dash panel light and switch back lighting operation due to the daylight conditions. Please note that electrical components listed above are assessed by switching them "on or off" only. Accuracy of instruments cannot be assessed. The battery performance and charging system have been tested, but you should note that older batteries can fail gradually or instantly without prior warning. A typical battery service life is 3 to 5 years depending on usage. Battery life cannot be predicted. It is important to check if the airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners (if fitted) are due for specialist checking or replacement. This may vary, but replacement at 10 years is sometimes necessary. Brake fluid should be replaced at the manufacturers specifed intervals. Brakes can be effective even when badly worn. As the road wheels are not removed during this inspection, an accurate measurement of the linings, drums, discs and pads cannot be given. Therefore, it is advised that the road wheels be removed and a general brake wear and serviceability check be carried out prior to purchase. Ensure all components are within manufacturer's wear specification and replace any worn or badly corroded parts. Wheels & Tyres: Wheel type: Alloy It is recommended tyres are replaced when the tread depth reaches 2mm. If uneven tyre wear is noted, this may indicate incorrect geometry, which can result in excessive and rapid tyre wear. A full steering and geometry check is therefore recommended. Wheel rims: Wheel trims: Tyres: Front RH: Front LH: Rear LH: Rear RH: Spare: S N/A Min tread depth: 7mm S 7mm S 7mm S 7mm S 3mm S It is not possible to comment whether the tyres fitted to this car are the actual tyre specifications as recommended by the manufacturer. Road Test: The road test has been undertaken within the speed limits and prevailing traffic conditions in the locality of the inspection. If a road test has not been carried out, please refer to the engineer's comments page. The fact that the clutch has not been identified as faulty/slipping/juddering/noisy on the report does not and should not be taken to imply that the clutch assembly will have a continuing life expectancy from the time of our check. They can begin to slip at any time. Recall Notices h Page 6 of 9 Inspection Report 28/10/2009 17:17 You are advised to check if this vehicle is or has been due a Manufacturer’s safety recall, please Please note that only the items listed above have been checked. That means that on this type of vehicle many costly items, fittings, equipment and systems have not been checked or tested. The client must satisfy him/herself in this respect and check that all others items work to the client's satisfaction prior to purchase. Final Check: Oil leaks: Yes Coolant leaks: No Uneven tyre wear: No Vehicle documents & inspection environment notes: Registration document (V5): The V5/Registration document shows 1 previous keeper(s), the last change of keeper on 9/7/07 Security: The engineer recommends that relevant spare and service keys are obtained prior to purchase. MOT: MOT date is satisfactory, no further action is required. Servicing: - full service history not checked The service history seen, indicated that the last recorded service was carried out on the 24/4/08 at 29,061 miles. Therefore the engineer would suggest a full service and brake check to the manufacturer's recommendations prior to purchase, which may reveal further defects not apparent at this examination. Inspection conditions notes: No vehicle hoist/ramp was available at the time of the inspection. A large trolley jack and stands were used in order to carry out underside checks. This limits the view of the underside. Some areas could not be fully seen. There may be further defects, which may be visible given clear access and view. Advice, warnings and recommendations: The overall assessment shows this vehicle to be in a condition commensurate with its age and mileage. Despite the adverse comments, the vehicle overall is a satisfactory example of the model and providing the repairs and recommendations are carried out, the vehicle should be capable of continued service, given regular maintenance and repairs when required. However, the issues noted in the report should be made the subject of any agreement with the vendor where appropriate, and attended to as necessary. The exhaust system is showing normal service corrosion, review condition at service intervals. Exhaust emissions, using gas analysing equipment, does not form part of the inspection service, so no accurate analysis of the fueling performance can be given. Page 7 of 9 Inspection Report 28/10/2009 17:17 The steering-suspension mountings and bushes show normal service wear consistent with usage. Our reporting is based on the same standard as an MOT test, which allows for a degree of normal wear and deterioration, but not to excess. The extent of wear is not considered excessive at this juncture and unlikely to attract MOT failure. However, if service criteria is applied a garage may advise replacement of bushes or mountings at a future service interval and this should be planned for as found necessary. No steering alignment or geometry checks are carried out as part of this inspection. Regular servicing and maintenance is recommended to ensure continued reliability. It is essential that after the purchase of this vehicle, all under bonnet fluid levels are checked on a regular basis and monitored. Although the radio operates the full functionality and performance of the in-car entertainment system has not been checked. All electrical items have been checked by switching on and off only. The vehicles instruments and gauges have been observed for operation, but their accuracy cannot be verified. Also the “standard†vehicle warning lights were checked and functioned normally during test. Specialized equipment systems and warning lights are not tested. The air conditioning is working and cools the air output down to the correct level. However, air conditioning systems require periodic servicing and this should be planned for when necessary. The underside of this vehicle is fitted with protective under trays and inner wing casings, which has restricted inspection of the lower parts of the engine and transmission and some areas of the understructure. This does inhibit visual examination of auxiliary components and some oil or fluid leakage might not be revealed. This factor is outside the control of the engineer. Brakes may be effective even when worn. As road wheels are not removed during the inspection, measurement of pads, linings, discs and non-visible components cannot be assessed. Unless a recent brake service has been carried out, it is advised that a general brake wear and serviceability inspection is carried out to ensure all components are within manufacturers wear specification. This includes brake fluid renewal inline with the manufacturer’s recommendations, usually every 2 years. This should be planned for as part of general maintenance. Although still serviceable, there is normal service wear in the clutch assembly consistent with its usage, but the condition can only be assessed by test driving. There is adequate engine braking on change down and no slipping or judder evident under normal driving conditions. However, the life expectancy of clutch units is uncertain and no prediction of the future service life can be given. During the 9 mile road test the vehicles handling, braking operation, transmission function and general performance was considered to be satisfactory with no adverse symptoms or noise levels. If you have not viewed or driven the vehicle personally, you must satisfy yourself of the vehicle’s cosmetic appearance, specification and suitability for your needs and expectations by viewing and driving the vehicle yourself, prior to making your purchasing decision. Check with vendor the warranty entitlement on this car. It is advised that you consider some form of Warranty be sought or purchased for this vehicle as additional protection against unexpected future repairs, ensuring that the level of cover is suitable for your needs and the vehicle specification. Essential Repairs: It is strongly advised that the essential repairs are investigated and rectified prior to purchase. Engine oil level - The engine oil level registers on the minimum mark, top up and monitor consumption. Service - No recent service documentation was seen with this vehicle. Therefore the engineer would recommend a service and brake inspection is planned for. This may reveal further defects and service requirements not apparent at this examination. Additional consumable parts will also have to be renewed as found necessary. Engine underside leakage - Heavy oil contamination around undertray sump area. Remove undertray clean off oil contamination and identify source of leakage, review and attend to as necessary. Advisable Repairs: These should be planned and budgeted for. Page 8 of 9 Inspection Report 28/10/2009 17:17 Suspension arms/mountings - There is normal service wear deterioration evident in steering-suspension mountings, bushes, and ball joints, consistent with usage but not to excess. Sub-frame/mountings - There is a light incidence of surface rusting on some underbody metal components including, suspension, sub-frames, brake and transmission units, this is consistent with climatic conditions and not detrimental. As a measure of preventative maintenance the areas should be cleaned off, and treated with an oil-based product. Exhaust Pipes - The rear exhaust system is heavily corroded, review condition and plan for replacement as necessary.

ade2009
Just an AA bloke..lol I just spoke to him on the phone.. He said"The oil leak issue is just some oil oil on the under try, he told the garage to get it steamed cleaned then check it for any leaks.." He said" the paintwork looks good to the naked eye, but has has some work on it due to sufrace scrtaches, however the bodywork has no dents and has no sign of accident damage.." He told me"it drives very well no clutch wear which could be a problem if the car had been driven hard" Overall he said"It's a fine example as long as the oil leak and exhualst linkage corrosion issues are adreesed before purchase." I have been in touch with the garge and he said he would adress the issues and give the car a service.. so if he keeps to his word I thnk I'll try and do a deal.. nixy
i think sometimes the throroughness of these reports scares you more than anything. I would say it sounds ok. Its a bit like when you get a full structural survey on a house you are buying - scares the life out of you but is usually pretty normal! bounty78
That's a very thorough report. Won't worry too much about the corroded exhaust system as long as they are replacing it. I think that seems to be a very common problem with lots of Zed. A lot of people here end up replacing it with an aftermarket one.

bounty78
I am afraid it's something you have to decide for yourself. My opinion is purely on the exhaust system because i had similar problem with mine and some of the used one on sale on ebay seems to be slightly corroded externally.
