witstu
What extra costs do mods. to your car incur from insurance companies, ie exhaust, induction kit, wheel spacers, wheels, is it minimal? Thanks.
3FIDDYZ
anything thats not stock on the car sold by the factory should be declared.. And it all depends on your insurance company and what your paying!
martinmac
As Mark says, anything really. There are two points to consider. Nor declaring any mods can invalidate your insurance. Also you will not get like for like replacements unless they are declared and this is agreed with the insurer.
skyinsurance
As above, it all depends on your insurer. Some insurers wont allow mods, some will charge ridiculous amounts for adding mods, some will know what they are doing and will charge appropriately. Most specialist wont charge for costmetic changes but you may get a small load on the premium for induction kit, exhausts etc
introspect
I'm with Adrian Flux and adding an induction kit, braided brake lines and a few cosmetic bits under the bonnet hasn't put up my premium at all. Basically, body kits or anything which increases the power will put up the annual cost with them.

M13KYF
with Chris Knott the mods didn't add anything extra. I know in the case of wheels they will adjust the excess to keep the costs down. Give them a call. You find info in the insurance section. they do a excellent deal for members of the club. Just remember to quote the reference number

3FIDDYZ
Fingers crossed they stay that way then.lol. Im with Chriss Knott too & im getting a k1 soon & a few carbon add-ons K1 sould reduce the cost down as its about 1000 cheaper (from nissan!) than an OEM and does nothing for the power!! But try and explain that to the insurance company! Also its strange that things like body kits that are cheaper to replace than OEM dont bring the costs down, BBKs that stop the car quicker and make them safer dont bring the costs down.... I know that there are other mods that make the cars faster or that hamper safety features that should load up insurance but I wish an Insurance company somewhere would see that and reduce premiums sometimes for mods.... Shaun1982
Totally agree fiddy, load of arse really isnt it,9 out of 10 modders cars are safer than peoples standard cars due to some of the mods but its not seen that way unfortunately

Markerstudy through A-Plan brokers. They always beat any renewal price I am given and I couldn't do much about changing anyway as I was over half way through my policy when I bought the Z. It would have cost more to bin it and buy a new policy.
ace
I think you will find premiums may go up for mods is for two reasons, the average joe blogs doesn't fit bolt on bit's to make the car go faster or look like a racing car so that puts him in the 'boy racer' group and secondly if 2 Zed's are sitting on a drive one standard the other with 2 grands worth of wheels and go fast carbon bits which one do you reckon the thieving chav is going to nick! Absolutely – I couldn't agree more. Also in the past there have been a number of accidents that have been attributed to people modding their cars and making them unsafe, either by using non OEM parts or the quality of workmanship or lack of it in fitting the parts. I am surprised the insurance companies don't charge more for modded cars.
skyinsurance
It really works both ways though.. some insurers will view the driver of the modified car as a better insurance risk as he or she is enthusiastic about the car, has spent money on it so is less likely to drive like an idiot. This theory also works for car club members, anyone who takes the time to join and participate in a car club is more likely to be enthusiastic about the car, will look after it so is therefore less of an insurance risk. Our claims stats prove this is the case for most vehicles we insure, hence why we offer a discount to club members Ollie Sky Insurance
