Husky
OK im asking for a wee bit of help here. I'm looking to get a laptop for a couple of uses. 1) i cant be bothered sitting at a pc in my room anymore, although i have the tv in the lounge (via long cables) as a second monitor with the surround hooked up and usb for the keyboard and mouse its still inconvenient. 2) Would like to use it in the garden or while im sitting on the roof. 3) would like it to load up a guide/DIY/workshop manual while working on the car. 4) i need to replace my portable dvd player and take on holiday as a dvd player. So i think i would really like a netbook for the portable aspect taking on holiday, also nothing to big and clumsy for round the house etc. I know that netbooks dont have dvd/cd drives so i would need to get an external to go with it. budget isnt so much of a worry but i dont need a performance machine as i have the desktop. Any ideas guys?? i have looked at this so far. http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=NRSM1002&l=en&m_30=181177&oc=N00B1002&rbc=N00B1002&s=dhs http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150183
SunGodRA
Dell Mini's are great - I have sold loads of these - remember though, there is no optical drive If you have the budget - look at the HP Elitebook 2530p - probably the best sub portable on the market - I can get these about £300 off the retail price

Its soo yummy though how much are we talking?? theres a few different specs by the looks of it, i wouldnt need the top but defo with the built in optical drive. would be nice to have a configurator like dell rather than having to hunt down the sepcific one. Tarmac@TarmacSportz
Husky If Sun God can get you one for that price then that is an amazing deal... They are selling on ebay for nearly 2k. Im in need of a new laptop, I wanna give my missus my old one and I want a new one. Sadly I can't justify spending that much as I have got two Dell laptops one for work 'viewing limitations' and one for home 'Itunes, net, occasional porn etc TMI' but it is a fantastic deal if you get it... Really i think having a built in dvd is an important part so im going to have to up the size I cant get as good deals on the model that comes with DVD. Most of my customers have bought without the DVD as it adds to weight and is a drain on power - for media they use flash sticks etc
Husky
yeah i can imagine. it would be there for use as portable dvd player like i said. normally i would use flash stick but when i go on hols my freind will be bringing. Husky
right, i think im going back to the drawing board as i cant justify spending that much on a laptop that is simply for a dvd player and web access. so i will have a peek, whats the smallest size you can get with an optical drive for a reasonable price? 12.1?
