rtbiscuit
possibly lost a wheel weight, might need rebalancing, or the camber might be out, just get the camber toe and wheel alignment and blanacing checked. alot of places won't charge for an alignment test unless you need it adjusting. Trev-the-Rev
Sounds as if it could be a wheel bearing.
GIXXERUK
I'm with trev, sounds like the left hand front wheel bearing to me
speedy
Thanks, but why would that only happen when turning right? and the noise only seems to come from the right.
rtbiscuit
because your putting that bearing under increased load with the lateral force of turning in that direction. good test for a wheel bearing is when parked get hold of the top of the tyre and give the wheel a good shake if you can feel movement backwards and forwards then the wheel bearing is on its way out. speedy
I tried that but i didnt feel to much movement. I am starting to think the bearing has gone...i am wondering if the torlerances are so tight that even the smallest amount would mean it on its way out....Any ideas on the cost of a new one or are the adjustable? Trev-the-Rev
Try repeating the procedure with the car jacked up and the wheel off the ground.
rtbiscuit
What trev said. It's a heavy car so jacking it up will give you a more accurate feel of he wheel without the weight pushing it into the ground.
speedy
ok, so a small update!! The noise is a rumble, this actaully happens while going straight but get worse turning right but completely go's when turning left. Do people believe that this is still the bearings? lamby
IMO no i don't think so if it was the bearing it would be more of a groan or whine than a rumble. i may be tempted to get the wheel rebalanced as you may have lost a weight.
speedy
Thanks, if it were a balance issue i would have thought it cause a vibration rather than a rumble?
lamby
Maybe i would try jacking up if you havent already and see f that sheds any light on the situation if not im not sure
rtbiscuit
whats the tyre wear like on the wheel, is it even or is it more worn to one side. might be need adjustment. also check the tyre for any blisters or bulbous sections, especially on theinside of the tyre wall where you cant see. speedy
The tyre wear is good, no feathering at all. I stopped off at the place that fits my tyres (has done foe years) and they couldn't see anything wrong with them at all. Might jack up the front over the weekend and have a look!! Its also going into TMG for a P1 so i'll ask them to have a look as well.
rtbiscuit
I'm out of ideas nearly. I vaguly remember someone else having a noise issue and it was so ethong to do with there susspension, but that was more a knocking noise. Without being in the car it's very hard to diagnose anything. When you go back tomorrow it might be worth taking one of the fitters for a drive and see if he can hear it. Trev-the-Rev
Try swopping your front wheels over and see in the noise stays the same or transfers to the other side. That will then eliminate that wheel and tyre.
