Andyman1971
About 3 weeks ago I bought an 05 GT4 and am now having the skipping and sound problems that seem to be common. I have been told by the garage that I purchased from that they need to take the head unit out, get the relevant serial numbers and order a replacement. They said that this was a common issue and the newer units should not suffer from the same problems (from threads on this forum I obviously stressed that I did not want a reconditioned unit). I was told that I had to wait 28 days from the date of purchase before a new unit (costing approx £600!!) could be ordered. Being a newb and pretty green I was hoping that someone on here could confirm that this is all true. I was also wondering if the newer units are identical to the current ie a 6 CD unit with a cassette deck!! or is there an upgrade option for MP3 etc.. I find it hard to believe in this day and age that a cassette deck is even fitted, so am hoping that the newer model is technologically superior. Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but the threads I have read are way over my head and I need a little more clarity:blush: Cheers, Andy. Maccaman
I believe everything they have said is correct. Unfortunately you would be getting the tape deck back, believe it or not. One of the biggest moans we all have.
Andyman1971
Wow that was a quick response! Do you know if there are upgrade options available or just a more suitable replacement? The 370Z must have a better system! If necessary I will get the new unit and then sell it to finance a better model.
Maccaman
Loads of members have dumped the Bose & upgraded to other units. If you do a search you will find lots of topics on this. Should keep you occupied for days, if you want to go that far
Andyman1971
Thanks!! I have looked at a few, but they seem to get rather technical and then I glaze over and start to lose the will to live (traction control off, 100mph round that corner!!) I'd rather have someone say - "Hey this system will fit into your 350z and give you MP3 playability via your steering wheel controls and only costs £200"!! Sorry, but that is as far as I will go (I know my limitations and they are very limited) - alright say it, I'm buggered!!!
Maccaman
I know exactly what you are saying as I have no idea either. This post might help otherwise it's go to an audio specialist and see what they have to offer. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=21637&hilit=Bose+replacement
Andyman1971
Thanks again Maccaman, it's too late to make decisions tonight, but that link has given me a little more insight and at reasonable prices too! Cheers, Andy.
Andyman1971
I hope I don't get in trouble for resurecting a month old thread but I have finally had my head unit replaced (under my 3 month warranty). Unfortunately the replacement was faulty and had no sound! To top things off when they put the old one back in it now doesn't work! What should have been a half hour job turned into nearly two. So another one has been requested from Clarion and I have no tunes for another week. I can now see why the previous owner never bothered having it changed! martinmac
My advice is quit and get another system. Make sure they replace it first though and sell it.
clarkie34
£600 for a replacement Bose. :scare I would not pay £6 for one, they are crap and are not even Bose, they are made by Clarion. Get a decent aftermarket one with wheel controls and iPod connection.
