Denali
Hi all, Great forum, you guys seem to know the answer to pretty much everything, so hopefully you can answer this! I picked up my 350Z about a month ago – it’s fantastic, totally in love with everything about it… accept the Bose stereo!!! So I’m getting the HU replaced with the Pioneer AVH-3100DVD next week. A few questions about the install… 1. Will the OEM sat nav still have sound? (the guy fitting it thought probably not) 2. Will the OEM sat nav still work at all? (the guy fitting it thought possibly not) 3. Reading up on threads here when the 3100 was first released it seems to be a bit hit and miss whether or not the steering wheel controls would still work. Is this still the case or was a solution found? 4. I also quite like the idea of getting a reverse camera put in at the same time, the one that seems cheapest and with the least intrusive fitting is the £80 unit that Halfords sell. Does anyone have this - any good? Any help much appreciated. (Car is a GT spec on 08 plate) Many thanks, Rob
whitey
Hello, I have the Pioneer AVH-4100DVD fitted to my Z, can't answer the question on the sat nav as i don't have it but my steering wheel controls are now working perfectly, there was a problem with loom but incartec who make the ICT loom fixed this for me, there was a bug in their software. All you can do is try a loom and if it doesn't work contact them, they corrected mine free of charge. Or better still order one from directly and tell them which head unit it will be uesd on but you can definitely get the remote working. Not sure about the camera either but i though i read somewhere that you needed to use the Pioneer ND-BC2 but keep this post updated cause i'd like to add one to mine. rtbiscuit
My long term goal is to add the 4100DVD. My satnav, which is a pioneer f500 currently works through the Bose system. I don't know how the standard one is wired up. Who you getting to fit it? I know there are some reccommend fitters on here who are familiar with the zed. If your close enough it might be worth trying them.
Denali
Hi there, Thanks for the replies. To give you an update: Had the 3100DVD fitted and it’s superb, I’m very happy with it. One thing I like is that while I don’t have the special Pioneer lead that allows control of the HU from the iPhone, I can actually still control the HU through my phone using voice control on my 3GS using a normal USB cable. This is handy and a lot safer I feel than scrolling on the move! The OEM sat nav does still work but the sound does not. The steering wheel controls do not work. I had it fitted by Road Radio in Greenwich, they told me there was no loom for this, I’m not too worried about this anyway. I’m sure there are more specialist fitters out there for the Z, but these guys did a good job. The Halfords camera is superb! Both the Pioneer and the unbranded one they had in their shop would have required a more intrusive fitting (drilling in the bumper, etc). This one is tiny and is fitted just by the boot release. It only costs £80 and Road Radio fitted it for £40 at the same time as doing the HU. Image quality and wide angle are really good. Thanks again, Rob
whitey
Cheers Rob, Definitely going to add the camera to my 4100 then, does it just turn on when you select reverse? I am interested in this camera: http://shop.reversingcamerasuk.com/epages/es106294.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es106294_shop/Products/CAM086 But the bloke from the shop says Pioneers can be a bit of a nightmare due to the wire that's connected to the handbrake. But if yours is working OK i presume my 4100 will work OK too. Shame about your steering controls, I have the ICT 29-274 wiring loom and mine are working really well. (Just in case you decide you do want them). Cheers Steve

whitey
I've not got any pics but it really easy to do, i mounted mine there and it works a treat! Be carefull though when you buy a camera, i found that most of them were too deep to fit here. Pop the cover out first and measure the depth i think the one i used was about 48mm deep. yokomo
cheers, how did you get the wires in to the cabin/boot ?
whitey
I took the left rear light out, this gives you access, the bumper has a Polystyrene lining which is a bit awkward to feed the wires past but there's a big rubber grommet which give easy access to the boot then you can feed the wires into the glove box and down the centre console. yokomo
cheers , got the wires pretty much all done but.... that piece of polystyrene is giving me hell trying to get passed it ! at the mo im trying to feed the wires oout the bottom to the under side as it looks easyest but no joy yet , then just need to sort out unclipping the reverse light and crimping on and the the HU end (wires are rn just not hooked yet). once im done il post some pics for future ref.
