maxi-glasgow
I will be working in Tokyo at the end of September for a week or so and I understand they have very regular meets with all their modified cars in Tokyo so was wondering if anyone has any info or where I can find out where and when they meet so I can arrange to have a look while I'm there. I was there working in December and it was then I seen a few 350z's that made me start looking for one when I got back home and finally bought mines in March. I'm also led to believe that their manner of modifying their cars is on a different planet to what we see here. Hope to bring back loads of photo's to see what they are doing. Any help would be most appreciated as wouldn't want to miss this opportunity.
3FIDDYZ
Jealous or what!!!!!! I think the one place to ask the question is on my350z. Gaz and Kev from Envy (The joys of being a trader that deals with the real deal!) took a short trip over recently but not sure how much they got out and about, I think it was a flying visit! But if you look on my350z there are quite a few US army guys that are stationed over there that post and may be able to point you in the right direction, Also the like of Bulletproof post up on there and they are japanese based. Also try Patric at RHDJapan as he may be able to assist. Hes a helpful guy. Good luck and looking forward to seeing what little bits of lovey rare JDM bits you manage to find! The place to go is Daikoku Futo, its a convergence of the motorways in Tokyo and gets the biggest turn outs - Friday and Saturday nights. There's a mix of everything there so you won't just see 350Z's but all of Japan's finest machinery. You cannot get there without a car, I'd suggest meeting up with some locals. I know a few good guys out there who may help depending on dates etc... http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... =0&ndsp=20 You'll probably want to go to the Nismo Factory at Omori and maybe visit some other tuners, time dependant obviously. Whereabouts you staying specifically? Fire away with any questions Gaz
choptop
As mentioned earlier, it will be difficult to do any meets without a car. Car hire in Tokyo is expensive and very few UK/US based car hire companies have outlets there. You really need some contacts there. Be careful when signing a car rental agreement. You need to check it is in English (unless you understand Japanese Script) so you can understand what you are signing up too. However, you can get to Nismo (HQ) quite easily by train (a 15 minute walk from the station) but I have to say that it is somewhat of a letdown when you get there. The little shop there is not always open and you need to check opening times for the shop and museum (Ground Floor of Office Block). There is a man behind a PC who does a very good impression of the Travel Agent in Little Britain.............I kid you not. You can look over into the small basement workshop as the shop has a window in it. In Ginza there is a showroom which is really easy to get to. You cannot miss it and is only a block away from the Sony Building. It shows off Nissan's latest wares. Occasionally they get their race vehicles in. There is a shop upstairs which sells T-Shirts, caps, model cars etc. Have a great time. It is a great city!
maxi-glasgow
Thanks guys for that info, looks like I might need to rope in someone from the office to take me then I was there in December but didn't have the Nissan bug at that time so wasn't even thinking about it. I was in Ginza though so will defo go back and visit the showroom. Last time I was staying in the Conrad hotel overlooking the bay, I think this time I will be staying in the Tokyo Hilton as that is where I will be mostly working as our external office is moving in to share office space with another Hilton department. Was without doubt the most expensive city I have ever visited, that's for sure. Think our room in the Conrad the last time was approaching £500 per night, thank fook the company was paying We were told just to jump in a taxi from Narita airport to the hotel, it cost me roughly £240!!!!!!!!!!!!! On expenses of course

On expenses of course I hear the Hilton is very nice. Its not always expensive, depends where you go like anywhere really. Central Tokyo to Narita in a taxi is never cheap "limobus" is what I normally use, its about £8.

BulletMagnet
If you get a chance, then visit an "Up Garage" store. These people specialize in second hand parts, which are usually reconditioned before selling them on. Some pics I got off the internet... Never forget that taxi journey though, we were sitting in the back and the missus dunts me and points to what we think is the meter and it's up at 35,000. I'm doing the quick maths in my head and say 'nah' that must be for something else, it can't be the cost....Doh!
maxi-glasgow
What I found strange was how much MORE expensive electronics devices were compared to here. I had just bought myself a Sony HDR-SR12E HD Camcorder and when I looked it up in their big department stores it was nearly £100 dearer... Even things like the Nintendo DS were more expensive. I was going to buy my little girl a new DSi as they had just been launched over there and weren't due here for a few months but it was roughly £185 and then I found out that it was region locked which is something the standard DS isn't. Yeah, until it goes over 200y to the £ again it won't be worth it. I've always had bargain in the past buying at 220-245Y to the £. Also, don't go to the big department stores, go to the duty free areas and into the independent specialists (even they are not so small!). Take your passport (for tax free), and finally HAGGLE. You can always get a deal (say a free memory card or case etc) with a camera, and then the tax off. It does make for a saving

choptop
As Gaz Walker says, you really need the Yen to be up over 200 to the pound to make sense on buying anything major In Japan. I guess Tokyo can be expensive like any city. If you stay in top hotels in London it can be just as expensive. I have found Tokyo very inexpensive except for the last time I went when there was only 130 Yen to the £. My Sony Camera I bought in the UK last October worked out double in Tokyo. Try out the 'Hub' chain of Bars when you are there. They are all over the place but the better ones I have found are in Ikebukuro. They even sell Strongbow on draught Pepper Lunch is also an inexpensive place for lunch and is worth trying.
maxi-glasgow
Well my flights are booked, going out on the 20th September and coming back on 29th. Just found out a massive bonus, the Tokyo Game Show is on the weekend I am there so that's my Saturday or Sunday mapped out Was reading another post by a user who put up a link to hiring a GTR while there, got excited and looked up the website, at over £300 for the day hire I don't think I will bother, but then on the other hand it might be the one time I drive a GTR

Whereabouts you staying specifically? Fire away with any questions Gaz One of the chaps in the office had volunteered to take me to Daikoku Futo but he spoke to his friend who was a frequent visitor to the meet and he said the police have stopped them using this place. They installed very large speed bumps to prevent most of the cars from entering and police it to stop them using the area. He is trying to find out where they all go now.... maxi-glasgow
Scratch that, just found a forum with a guy posting pictures from this place last Saturday night and there was allsorts there, even Hummers with gull wing doors.... So going on Saturday evening If I get any photo's I will post them up. Seemingly Saturday night is the best night for GT-R's
