ikarus
Hi all, I'm sat at home with swine flu, making the best use of the time (no not porn - i'm looking at upgrades for my fairlady, i only picked it up last week and have been ill since!). I'm in the market for a new set of rims and I've been offered a a set of 19's (new). Problem is i don't know whether the offsets are ok, they are 19x8.5 ET18 front and 19x10 ET23 rear. Also, anyone know anything about barracuda wheels, specifically this one: http://www.barracuda-wheels.com/we-ba/w ... Silver.php thanks in advance, ikarus. Digsy
Offsets sound OK, although you can never be 100% as different styles of wheel vary.
ikarus
Thanks Digsy, Just want to get some confidence before splashing out any cash. Anyone ever come accross this wheel before? http://www.barracuda-wheels.com/we-ba/w ... Silver.php ikarus
Ian
Never heard of them before but they look ok Offsets are good aswell
docwra
Not really familiar with them but the style reminds me of a Work VS-XX: Offsets/widths are good - what colour are you going for??
ikarus
Hi docwra, Yes i have looked at the work VS-XX, which is a true 3 piece wheel i believe, and at a good price. I do prefer the style of the barracuda's though 'slightly' as the rim bolt pattern is more suptle and the rim dish isn't dog legged. I am looking seriously at a set of 19s in Hyper-Black-Silver, you can choose the rim bolt finish too (for a little extra money), the options are gold or titanium - i'm leaning toward titanium over the standard chrome bolts. Should look as pictured in the link in my first post. I am quite confident of the offsets now (thanks guys ). These wheels are quite inexpensive comparitively (lest than 1.5k) and my only real worry now is build quality and longevity (especially that polished lip). However i have my stock 18s for winter use. ikarus.
docwra
Nice to see a man who has clearly done his reasearch before buying The price on the barracudas sounds good to me - you probably already know that a set of VS-XX are a lot more than that, and if you prefer the style its a no brainer. I wouldnt worry too much about the polished lip - as long as you dont neglect them too badly you should be OK - I run Gram Lights with polished lips and even though they go like this: in the depth of winter, with a bit of love they come back to this: You sound like your mind is made up, but Id also have a quick check of http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/pages/wheels_billet.html Image wheels - custom made so you can specify offsets, widths, fittings, lip style - everything. You can also buy one replacement if you happen to hit a very solid rabbit or something Billet 102 looks rather familiar, dont you think?? ikarus
docwra, >>in the depth of winter, with a bit of love they come back to this Good work! Are your rims laquered or coated with anything or a stainless finish? >>Billet 102 looks rather familiar, dont you think? You could say that!! - i guess there are only so many ways to build a wheel but it's shameless how many manufacturers have 'similar' designs. Thanks for the pointer (Image wheels), well worth a browse. My mind isn't entirely made up yet and i'll take a thourough look through there catalogue. ikarus
docwra
The rims are lacquered I think but you'll find most polished wheels are - the ones that are just metal are impossible to use in winter. I use Autoglym professional wheel cleaner - you dont want to be using it too often but its amazing for getting road shyte off.
ikarus
docwra, >>Autoglym professional wheel cleaner i will have to invest in some of this, i haven't tried it. Autoglym stuff is usually top banana. I take it it's kinder to the rims than that wonder wheels 'acid'. >>The rims are lacquered I think but you'll find most polished wheels are i am checking into this on the barracuda's. this could be a deal breaker if they have a rubbish finish. PS, do most people drop the suspension when running 19's. I am unsure whether it will need it. thanks, ikarus
