Pup
Does anyone have any ideas or can give me any help. I have hit a massive pot hole now my 350 nearly shakes me out of it when I turn a corner at any speed and it seems to be getting worse. the shake seems to come through the steering wheel I have already had the power steering pump removed and refurbed as it was making a terrible screaming noise and that seemed to help but the shake is back with a vengance the tracking isnt out and I am worried it might be the drive train. Anyone had anything similar or could offer any advice as to what to do next that dosnt involve pushing it off a cliff as it is doing my nut. Cheers Pup. rtbiscuit
is the alloy bent? maybe not the front face, but the rear rim. maybe dislodged some of the wheel weights, so might need re blancing. tracking could be out, so a full wheel alignment might sort it. check your ball joints, (jack the car so the wheel s are just off the floor and then give the wheel s a good tug (best done at a garage)) have alook under the car, make sure nothing is bent, you should be able to see if it hit anywhere as there will be fresh scars. other possibilities might be that you bolloxed the suspension but i think that is unlikely. start with the simplist ones first and work from there. worst case might be you've damaged the steering box
dcash5
Knocked your tracking out or worse still buckled your wheels, Best take it to a garage to get an allignment check
martinmac
Hi bud and welcome to the forum. I hit a large rock at speed last week and smashed a wheel. Any damage to the wheels integrity will throw the balance out. As has been said get it laser aligned, it wont cost too much and should highlight any problems. I am amazed that I had no other damage to my car, the rock was about 10 inches round and the car jumped so high it missed the side skirts. Hopefully this indicates what a shock the car can take. bronzee
Welcome to the forum Pup. Your cars not a pup, just needs a lil' bit of TLC. the shake seems to come through the steering wheel I have already had the power steering pump removed and refurbed as it was making a terrible screaming noise and that seemed to help but the shake is back with a vengance the tracking isnt out and I am worried it might be the drive train. If it was your drivetrain/driveshaft (ie the very long cf bit, not the axle assemblies you lot refer to drivetrain ), it would most likely be the Universal Joint (UJ) you would feel the vibration very heavily through the firewall under load if you put your ankle against the firewall, you would also feel the vibration through the seat and steering wheel. Axle assemblies can vibrate, but given the first description you gave us in post one, check the things RTbiscuit has suggested, seems most likely. (I've been through replacing the driveshaft & an axle assembly quite a while back). Mr Biscuit is onto it. Let us know how you get on. Ebized
I would not do another mile until you have found what the problem could be +1, wouldnt want to create more damadge or risk the zed +2 A shame you had to introduce yourself with a problem but welcome, and do get the car up on a ramp and professionally inspected sooner rather than later - something is bent for the shaking you are describing, whether it is the inside of a wheel or the supsension is impossible to say without seeing the car, but would hate for it lead to a breakage and possible worse........... Pup
hey all thanks for the info it is very much appreciated. some more info that might be of assistance, I dont think its the wheel / alloy as there is no shaking in a straight line its only when I turn a corner, I have had the car tracked and it dosnt seem to be out. when stationary if you turn the wheel there is a squeeling noise - which led me to believe that it was the power steering pump hence it was removed and refurbed, I was wondering if it might be something to with the steering rack? not sure if its the balancing as the shaking that comes through the steering wheel is pretty violent although it just seems to be coming through the steering wheel ?? Anyb help is very much appreciated Cheers Pup.
