Machine Shop and Tuner Recommendations

Hey folks,

Probably a better place to ask the question than in the intro's section...

Can anyone recommend a machine shop in or around Scotland which would be able to cope with boring cylinders, installing sleeves, machining heads and that sort of thing? I've been looking around various places on the net and can't find any recommendations for garages who've worked on Z's.

It doesn't have to be in Scotland, but obviously it would be more convenient the closer it is...

Any experiences or advice would be much appreciated as it will help me decide a) which route to take the mods and B) which car to buy in the first place!

All help appreciated!

Cheers,

Doug

Hi Doug,

I can help you with this.

I am based in Perth and can highly recommend a machine shop in this area.

Give me a shout and I will point you in the right direction.

Alex.

Not sure about location wise as I'm not that familiar with the UK, but I know Simon Norris at Norris Designs has VQ experience (we've sent him parts for these engines before)

As far as which mods to buy, etc, I am sure between Alex and myself and a few others here, can easily help guide you down the path that suits your needs and budget

Hi Doug, further to your pm thought that it would be helpful to other Scottish members if I posted these links up here.

The machine shop that I can highly recommend is Agra Engineering in Dundee. We go back a very long time and they are a highly skilled set of guys. Ask for John, Jonathan or Ian.

Regarding dyno and mapping, give Jim Curley a shout at Star Performance, Dysart, Kirkcaldy.

I would advise you to stay away from Dastek.

Thanks for that info Alex... Much appreciated! From their website, Agra look like exactly the sort of place I'm trying to find...

Will Star tackle Haltech 350Z ECU's then? Interesting. I had them plugged as pretty a VAG specialist...

Intrigued about your Dastek comment though. I had experience with them a number of years ago and they seemed like a pretty reasonable setup. Can you divulge? By PM perhaps?

Thanks again, have an ebeer! :drunk:

Just a quick update re. tuners...

Star Performance replied with a three word response: "Sorry, cannot help." :dots::thumbdown:

I do have a couple of other leads though, one in particular is much more promising, so not all is lost! I'll let folks know once things are confirmed.

Cheers,

Doug

PS: I've edited the thread title to reflect the content...

That is three words more than you will get from most tuners

At least they replied with a polite and candid response although rather short.

I am attending one of Star's trackdays tomorrow and I be only be to pleased to pass on any queries or questions that you may have if you wish to pursue this.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll give Star a miss for now...

The lack of even a simple "Hi Doug," or a "Regards, A N Other" makes me think twice about their standards of customer care and subsequently I wouldn't want to drop four figures in their lap for what I believe may be a lesser quality service.

Besides, I have a couple of other options where the respondants were at least willing to write a proper reply... One particularly promising indeed!

Besides, if all else fails, I'll map it myself... computer-18.gif
