Vale
Hi all, thanks again for all those who welcomed me to your site the other day I have 2 questions really, 1. i read in the forums that there is a road tax issue pre 06 or post 06 whichever, can someone clear this up please. Is it not £400 regardless of car age for 12 months ? 2. i notice that there will be a meet up soon, is anyone welcome or just Zed owners ? Thanks again for your time, and i cant wait to join the club lol my wife has given me the green light although i have had to trade with her......guess i will becoming a 'dad' for the privilage of owning a zed Regards, Vale. martinmac
Looks like thats congratulations x 2 then bud. The tax issue changed many times over the last year but the newer cars are now £400, mine is an 05 and is £215 or aboout that. With imports the DVLA make up the rules as they go along. The big Wales meet is 350z only as its a massive meet and very difficult to marshall but there are lots of regional meets and you are more than welcome to pop along and say Hi at those. Cant remember where you are bud.
Vale
Am in Hull, East Yorkshire. Thanks for the info, i am probably going to sound proper stupid but are all zeds imports ? !!! I have never owned a jap car so i am green as grass. You may all now laugh at me
martinmac
Not at all bud Technically, all zeds are imported but there is a difference in the ones for the UK market and the ones for the JDM, Japanese Domestic Market. In the UK there are basically two model specs, the base model and the GT with all the toys. There are guides as to what the different JDM specs are on here, aslo a list of what you get with the GT pack. Roadsters are better though
Vale
Cheers mate, I have seen one called a fairlady of something, i think that is a JDM base model ? lol, like i know I also had a snoop around my local Nissan dealer the other day, there was a rodster in there...a brand new one for £19500, it was 313bhp. very nice indeed So, if i get a UK based GT pre 05 should the road tax be about £215 for 12 months ? Thanks again Martin for your help.

nixy
if you see a car you like the look of and you want any advice just post it up and we'll have a look. Fairlady Z is the name the 350 has in japan (the original name) they changed it to 350z for the american and european markets but same car. The main way you can tell the difference is the jap import will have a square rear plate unless the bumper's been changed.

ITSpecialist
Just had my Road Tax renewel and that's £400 for the year. 2003 model - 350z, not fairlady but is an import. I really can't see how they can distinguish the Co2 from the JDM and UK models. Not a happy bunny on the renewal it says 291 g/km for Co2. Can anyone tell me what it says on the UK? nurrish
But when was it first registered in this country Also if it is an import (square plate on the back) then its originally called a fiarlady Unless your steering wheel is on the left

rtbiscuit
cut off for £215 road tax is april 10th 2006 i think, give or take a month. anything after this is £400, but those who are before this date are apparently going to be brought up to match by the end of this year beginning of next, this was always the policy, but has just been postponed while we have a ressession. with in the next 12-18 months all cars built after 2001 will be subject to the new taxes. so if you get an older car, you'll only avoid it for a few months. most people who are renewing now are buying just 6 months so that they can renew fro 12 months on the old scheme before it changes

nixy
was registered Jan 2003 The date they use is the date it was registered in the UK (so after it was imported), not the date it was manufactured or registered in Japan.
ITSpecialist
Ah, just rechecked my V5 it was registered in the UK 11/12/2003, registration in Japan was Jan 2003. Damn it. was registered Jan 2003 The date they use is the date it was registered in the UK (so after it was imported), not the date it was manufactured or registered in Japan. nixy
if your car was registered 2003 in uk it shouldn't be £400 - it went to £400 for cars registered after 2006
ITSpecialist
Well I rang the DVLA they claim my car has greater Co2 that UK cars, so they said nothing they can do about it. So is there anyone else with a Jap' car that has lower tax???

waylander
ITSpecialist I have a 55 reg JDM, just paid my road tax last month for the next 12 months.....pretty sure it was £190 , will check tonight after work. I thought any 350z JDM imported and registered before mid 2006, the road tax for these car are lower so im quite puzzled as to you having to pay £
Vik54
Can't comment on the JDM tax issue but cut off date for higher RFL on a UK zed is April 23rd 2006 - anything registered after this date is subject to the higher rate - which next year will be £445 - the robbin' btards I for one refuse to give the chancellor one more penny of my hard earned cash - its why I'm only looking at pre 06 zeds - I know the interior may not be quite as nice and slightly less BHP - but can soon sort that oot!
