srobrien Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I have some aluminium bottles to replace OEM, was just wandering if anyone had any tips on how to swap them over with minimum mess, fluid loss and fuss. Cheers R Quote

Cheers R They are a bit of a pain in the ar$e to change. We syphoned off the contents into some other recepticals and then removed the OEM's. Then moved the hoses to one side still upright with fluid in. Apart from draining the system you will get a mess! Best to have some more steering fluid ready for when you put the new ones on. Worst one was the PS bottle with the 2 holes. One was a major pain in the butt to reattach, lots of scraped nuckles! But worth it in the end! Mark Quote
srobrien Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Cheres mate, giving it a go today since the sun is out. R Quote
Martin W Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I watched Mark do it ably assisted by Dan Must have taken 2 to 2 and a half hours!! Quote
dcash5 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I can also vouch for this. I honestly thing the easiest thing for the power steering fluid bottle is wheel off and arch lining out thenyou can drain the hose and tanks from the hose. Mark was just awkward as his car is soo damn low he couldnt jack it up! Quote
ab350z Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Where'd you get the bottles from Ross? Also, who did your polished plenum? Quote

Radiation expansion bottle, on without a sport of bother, one hose on the PS bottle, fine and dandy................................................HOW IN THE NAME OF SWEET HOLY MOTHER OF MERCY DO YOU GET THAT OTHER HOSE ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I've tried everything in my limited knowledge including trying to heat it up with hot water so it will stretch over the end. I've even tried hitting it with a shifter and swearing at it, but still did it move...did it hell! I give up, the toys are well and truly out the pram. PS: Chris I got the plenum and bottles from sunset350z.....im also blaming him for wasting my afternoon Quote
3FIDDYZ Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Told ya!!! I know know how you feel mate . I think IIRC we used some washing up liquid on the said hose and with brut force and a few sets of pliers managed to get it on.... Have you jacked and taken the arch off? Quote

No, i found there was plenty of room with both bottles out. If you take the arch off can you pull the hose right out? R Quote
ab350z Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Any way of lubricating the hose so it slides on easier? A man of your oilfield knowledge should know a bit of lube goes a long way Quote
sunset350z Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Oops sorry for wasting your afternoon Ross How come one hose fits easy and the other one doesn't??? Quote
srobrien Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Not sure mate, one of the nozzles is about 1mm too thick for the hose. I will give it another go when it gets back from the body shop. Oh and chris the only lube we use offshore comes in tubes and I'm not sure if it is ok for automotive use R Quote
