martinopy
Hi guys i'm looking for some help for some problems i've got, i've just fitted a set a decats and i get a noise sorta like a washer vibrating and i've traced it to the cat sensors. The problem seems to be the thread isn't a tight fit into pipes and therefore seems to be causing the noise, i'm just wondering what i could put around the thread to tighten it up, i was thinking maybe some exhaust paste?? The second problem i have is a vibration/rattle sound which seems to be the exhaust vibrating on the underside of the car, i've had a good look but all the clearances seem spot on so was just wondering if anyone else has had this probem and how they managed to fix it? rtbiscuit
PTFE tape on the thread. would be my suggestion. i've used the stuff with plumbing jobs, not sure how that stuff would cope at those temperatures though?

Not sure what temp exhaust gases are at at the cat. I've used in it in oil wells that are geothermal producers and are at about 180*C. That's tested to 3000psi at that temperature too. Not sure if it'd be the best thing on an exhaust though....
rtbiscuit
cats get hot, would think no more than an oven so i'm guessing top wack would be around 220 c, but thats a guess.
martinopy
Yeah the pipes get roasting hot so i don't think the tape would do.
BulletMagnet
Would Hylomar Blue be a solution?
Ian
My exhaust used to rattle against the underside, I got the hangers adjusted & it fixed the problem
Mathys
I had a sort of rattle and it turned out to be the o2 sensors being loose. As they fitted ok, I retightend them.
