Airbag resistor

Guys,

Looking for suggestions as to where to get a 2.0 or 2.2ohm resistor from in the general vacinity of Slough (work) or Basingstoke (home). I tried to search Maplin online but couldnt find anything. Do they sell single resistors in store? My seats have come a couple of weeks sooner than I was anticipating, so need this asap hence no getting them online.

no resistor on mine chris, just 2 scotchlocs and some lesser guage wire (not sure of the ohm though!) Do you want a pic?

Might be handy as an option. Havent heard of that before, everywhere quotes a 2 or 2.2ohm resistor is required to bridge. I guess your one is sufficient to change it. TBH I'm not to hot on my electronics, so not sure what guage wire would change the ohms correctly

What about these? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2179

You can get 2.2ohm. Anyone know what wattage resistor you need? I've only ever heard you need 2.2ohm, but not how many watts it needs to be rated at. Maplin do the 2.2ohm in 3w, 7w and 10w but only have stock in the 10w.

EDIT: Acutally Basingstoke are showing as having the 3w and the 10w. Any ideas what I need?

Brides?

I dont have that much money!

You'll see as soon as they are fitted, dont worry. ETA tomorrow or Thursday. I can only fit them once I have the right resistor as I dont want to drive it with no air bags!

So no one about with knowledge of this stuff? I find it very hard to believe, comeon you useless lot! Otherwise I will have to ask the scroat in Maplins who probably doesnt know what a resistor is

Chris, I won't say a word or show any photos... :teeth::lol::thumbs:

Joe's going to have them in and out of the warehouse so quick you wont have a chance. Delivered to them today, and to me tomorrow, straight out for delivery ;):teeth: Or at least he better :boxing:

I take you have searched my350z? And also for the nismo airbag delete?

Yup, they all mention 2-2.2ohm, but cant see any mention of wattage.

Would have thought 3w was plenty ;) Would go down to 1 watt if you can get them. At the end of the day what do these wire connectors do? set off the airbag? :)

Cool. I assume by using a higher wattage resistor, its not going to do any harm? Just it can handle more should it need it? Not knowing much about electronics I dont know what damage I would do using the "wrong" wattage resistor. From a quick bit of googling, if it was too low it would burn out, if it was too high, well there doesnt seem to be a too high

If it was too low a wattage it would get very warm. But in this case i should imagine nothing really happens unless heaven forbid you were in a crash. I should imagine some type of charge is sent to the airbag in the event of crash that blows some type of blowable fuse (in your case a resistor) that activates the airbag. The fact that you are fitting a resistor only tells the airbag monitoring unit that it is connected to the airbag which must have a similar impedance of 2.2ohm hence clearing the light, and in that case i should imagine only a very small signal current is used. ;)

Cheers chap. Found a useful post on my350z that says 1/4 or 1/2 watt is the one to use, and Maplin have loads of 0.6w ones in stock, so I'll get them tonight!

Why does electronics have to be so difficult

Yes i think that would be fine, like i said its there only for monitoring purposes so very little current will be used. :)
