Cragus
Hey everyone, Just a quick bit of advice if possible. I am about to replace the stock tyres on my Z all round - they have the stock bridgestones on just now. I have read most of the reviews and opinions of tyres on the site and am most conpuzzled as to what to buy. Falkens, Toyos, Bridgestones, MPS seem to be the main contenders. So far I am thinking of going for bridgestone again as they seem the most reasonably priced premium tyre. I know there are alot of haters of this tyre but until losing most of the tread I haven't found them to be that bad. Its looking like £600 for four new tyres. However, I was hoping to go for the 245/50/18 rather than the 245/45/18 as they seem to have been better recieved. My question is do I put 225/50/18 on the front aswell or stick with the standard width at the front? Thanks in advance.
Ekona
You'll need 45 profile tyres both back and front if you're planning on sticking with stock widths, else you'll give the stability control system a hissy fit. Surely 4x T1-Rs aren't more than £600?
rtbiscuit
check camskills out on the web. best prices on tyres, or tyremen are prettygood, as are black circles. i priced up 4 vredesteins ssantas on camskills at about £120 a corner i think it was about £480 for 4 tyres, toyos were around the same price and falkens were about £90 a corner and came in at under £400 for 4 tyres. thats wehere i will be going to get my tyres from once the stock stones run out. those prices are excluding fitting. Cragus
Thanks guys, Some of the other posts mention stepping up to the 50 width with bridgestones improved handling? Is this not the case. Any passing through the post tries these tyres?
Mathys
I'd look into the new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric, they get good reviews as well...
Trev-the-Rev
I'd look into the new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric, they get good reviews as well... Agreed they're very good but unfortunately they don't do them for the stock size fronts.
Cragus
Arrggggh! Why are there so many choices? So I take that the bridgestones in the RE50s are not favourable then? I noticed a few other members talking about them in another post on this site and figured they would be more popular...guess not. Another tyre that seems to be getting good feedback are the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. Looking at those and Toyos as an alternative now. I can't make up my mind. xStric9x
There is nothing wrong with the RE050's bud, i have them on mine and find them fine
Cragus
Hey Stric, Am I correct in saying that you put the 245/50/18 on the rear and the standard 225/45/18 on the front? Is it also true that you need to try and get a specific compound code? Do you find them better than the stock sizes - and there not giving your stability control system a hissy? Thanks for the advice bud!
maxi-glasgow
Was out and about yesterday, parked at far side of car park to go into McDonalds, came back out and when I got in car a bunch of neds in their escort pulled up pointing down at my drivers side front wheel, I put the window down and they said your tyre is flat, I got out and it didn't seem too bad, so I said it's just a lower profile tyre than the back tyre. So I pulled out and they came out behind me, the get swerved out to my left and then back upside me as I was crawling over the speedbumps, he is shouting out the window that it wasn't the same as the other side. So I went straight into the petrol station and put on the pump, it only had 9psi in it. Blew it up and drove about half a mile, got out the car and could hear the tyre hissing. Bugger. With it being a bank holiday the guy I usually get cracking deals from was closed so had no option but to go into Kwik Fit. He showed me the inside edge of the tyre was split, he could pull black a flap in the edge of the tyre and the air was gushing out He said it's the tracking that must be out as only the inside edge is worn completely, looked at passenger side and the inside edge was slightly more worn then outside, so decided to put two new tyres on. Only choices were Bridgestone, Continentals or something else I can't remember. So decided on the Bridgestones, got the tracking done as well and cost me £354 for the privilege... The car had Bridgestones on the back and Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front, don't know if it's me but the roadnoise does seem louder now with these front tyres. I asked for the Eagles but they only stocked them up to 16". So an expensive day out yesterday...
Cragus
Hey Maxi, I ended up opting for the Bridgestones - stock sizes again but the RE050's instead of te RE040's. What did Kwik fit fit on your Z - they did my tyres too but I requested the RE050. I am finding them ok so far but have nothing to compare them to so couldn't fairly say how they perform in relation to any other tyre. Cragus
Hey Stric No problem! went for the RE050's after you saying you find them ok and so far I have to agree. Nearly went for the Pilot Sports but reviews said they wear quickly and at near 300 bucks a tyre I didnt really fancy it

Greekman
Nearly went for the Pilot Sports but reviews said they wear quickly and at near 300 bucks a tyre I didnt really fancy it wouldnt say so....on the second set of ps2s now...grip is just amazing at any weather conditions....last set was changed after 6000miles 2 track days and a drift day with 5mm thread on the front and 3mm on the rear...i only changed tyres as a precaution. Having written off a maserati 13 months ago i decided i will never wait till my tyres reach the legal limit....on a downpour its not enough! xStric9x
I've got pics that will scare the hell out of anybody who decides to mess about with tyres and not put the right one on or let the tread run below the legal limit. Martinmac can certainly vouch for that They are actual pics so not sure how to scan and save them to the pc.
Cragus
Hey Jerry, I got the four RE050's in stock sizes for £600 fully fitted. Thought £150 a corner fitted was pretty reasonable! Yeah, I hear you Stric. The only thing thats keeping the Zed on the floor is the rubber so its not worth taking risks on. On the whole 6000 miles thing - I hope my tyres are going to last longer than that but then I dont plan to track it or drift it.
Greekman
13 months tonight at 2.30 in the morning.... not saying anything about the 050's...they are good tyres.... just a reminder of what can happen on 3mm thread all over, wide tyres and heavy rain....it was straight, dual carriageway and 75mph on the speedo... its just that not all english roads are perfect

givememorepower
I remember owning an old XR4x4 that I bought for tracking. I was coming home one night at (I'm lying honestly officer) full chat which was only about 125 in the old girl, and as I approached the starry lights of town, what should I see overtake me on my inside (un-provoked I might add), well, it was only my front left hand Michelin! Needless to say if it wasn't a 4x4 it may have ended up like yours! I just limped on home steering lots to the right at a slightly lesser speed, and ruined lots and lots of tarmac as my spare alloy was at home

Greekman
-Also the same place I got speeding points on my R6! Beware the Sully the thing is i had slowed down as a friend of mine had ruined his new CLS on the new bit at the brough junction about a month before me. same weather...if i was speeding i would be the first to admit. car lifted up and went off the road without slowing down...didnt hear any noise prior...so it couldnt have been a flat tyre..... I was thinking more of £130 a corner! Well I looked on several sites that users recommended as cheap like camskills and blackcircles. The rear RE050's on blackcircles just now for example are £165 - and this is without fitting: http://www.blackcircles.com/information ... d=11359516 Also phoned about a few national and local tyres placed and this was about the best price. SHould I be lol. Tell me where I can get them cheaper next time and I'll be there. I'd rather have it to spend elsewhere. lol P.S. that crash is immense. Cabin looks fairly intact considering the amount of damage though
