ALT
Hi all, I did a bit of driver training with Car Limits at North Weald airfield on Monday. A great day – learned a lot. Spent quite a bit of time doing high speed bend work and finished off with some track work. Really makes you appreciate how good the 350z is. Plenty of power, but still very controllable with TC off. It would make a good drift car My thanks to Andrew Walsh who is a great driver and a patient instructor.
Stew
Maybe an idea to put up some more info on this... Prices, what else you did and maybe a link to a website. Sounds like something others would be interested in.
rtbiscuit
sounds like something i'd like, advantages of going fast in your car, learning how to drive better, and less things to hit than on a race track
Chris`I
advantages of going fast in your car, learning how to drive better, and less things to hit than on a race track Also a lot cheapest way to shave chunks of you lap times than any other mod! Sounds like something others would be interested in. Sure. It was a four person day - that is, sharing the instructor with three other people. But still plenty of driving time – it works out really well. The day started off with a 10-20 minute session 1:1 with the instructor. We each had instruction in driving the "high speed bend" in turn. My first attempt, at about 60mph was not good. Totally binned it. Lots of blue smoke. After a bit of instruction there was an opportunity to practice on my own, as others had their instruction. Soon I was able to do it consistently at 70mph. Any attempt at higher speed resulted in more blue smoke, or an encounter with the imaginary wall. So a bit more instruction, and I managed to get up to 80mph. A very cool feeling. After the initial instruction we were able to follow each other around, so in total I must have had at least 20 goes at it. So the morning was a mixture of instruction and solo practice. It felt like the right balance to me. The afternoon followed a similar pattern. This time exploring slip angles, and controlling oversteer and understeer on a circular course. The last part of the day involved a track laid out using cones – 0.8 miles in length. I was driven around by the instructor, and then given ample opportunity to practice both with the instructor, and on my own. I think I drove about 8 or 9 laps. The instructor was timing, and I think I acquitted myself quite well, doing it in about 1:02. Which was only marginally slower than a chap in a Lotus Elise. Cost for the day 199 quid (oh, and I’m very close to needing a new set of front tyres – so factor that into the cost). Website: http://www.carlimits.com/ Good value for money and great fun. Recommended.
