tomraper
Right. So ... I'm a technical and mechanical thicko who's never owned an automatic before. So - what in the world does the 'shift lock' button do? I don't mean the big knob on the side of the shift-lever, but the tiny little, flush to the console button called 'shift lock'. I assume it has something to do with stopping the auto' box moving gear but am nervous about a first experiment with it on the road. Help the numpty? Thanks

cgomez1978
alright mate i think its for emergency use when the battery goes dead you wont be able to move the stick out of P. But if you press the shift lock this release's it so you can move the stick into N and push the car. I think this is right Carlos
Chesterfield
As above, you can only move the selector from Park to another position if the brake pedal is depressed and the ignition is on. Not that Im experienced with the 350z Auto box, but if it follows convention, this movement from Park to another position is made possible by a solenoid being in the open position when the brake and ignition conditions are met. If for any reason you need to move the lever from Park to another position without having the brake depressed an the ignition on - then thats what the shift lock button is there for. Hope that helps.
