WoREoD
I've finally managed to isolate my gearbox crunch! It happens when changing down from 6th to 5th, and also from 4th to 3rd. It happens if I go straight through the change, but I can avaoid it if I pause for a fraction of a second in the neutral section before completion. I guess it doesn't happen when I go 5th to 4th because its a slightly longer change because of the dog-leg. I'm going to report it when the car is in for a service and other remedial next week, simply because its now seems to be happening regularly and, I'm sure it didn't happen at all for the first few months. Anyone else had similar symptoms? Cheers!
g_torphins
Your synchromesh is on the way out You just need the dealer mechanic to drive your car and replicate the problem. As soon as the dealer puts the wheels in motion with NissanGB warranty I'd call CS to make sure they're on top of things. I waited a stupidly long amount of time to get things sorted.ie months! Insist on getting a new gearbox,if you're unlucky they'll try the repair before replace strategy.Don't stand for it! Good luck
Dicky
Hi John. My problem occurs when changing from 1st to 2nd. I can feel something catching through the gear leaver as I’m engaging 2nd. Reported it to my local stealer not long after getting the car (2004) and they said “there all like that†

My daughters Megane had exactly the same thing from 3rd to Second. If you took your time it was OK. The car did have 90,000 miles though so this definately needs looking at. If the dealer won't follow up you could always get an oppinion from a gearbox specialist. Very worrying though on such a new car. I wonder which parts bin the gearbox came from. Probably some Nissan pick up or similar...
