Burning plastic smell......clutch going?

Sorry I don't quite understand the mechanics behind the flywheel getting damaged too? Is there a simple explanation for it?

I haven't driven it hard or ridden the clutch, even a trip round the block leaves a rather pungent smell....Clutch hasn't slipped as far as I am aware...

How much would a new clutch cost inc fitting as a ballpark? :headhurt:

hmmm right I did the old handbrake and pull away with clutch trick and it stalled and clutch seems fine.

It is definately a smell on the drivers side behind the wheel arch... which side does the exhaust run down? I am thinking it could be exhaust related.

I will get it up on the ramps and have a look.

Sorry for being a numpty, I have limited technical knowledge! I had thought that the exhaust split into two at the backbox... but then I am a noobie!

Hmmm, so what's the best way of figuring this out?? Electrical? Is there a specialist that could tell me? or a member?

Sorry, was for my own amusement.

Being a V6 there are two exhaust manifolds but on the standard exhaust they do join after the cats.

Maybe see if there is an owner based locally that might help out. If not I'd take it to a garage to be honest.

Mine quite often smells 'hot' if you know what I mean lol... not like burning plastic which is quite pungent, but something maybe like rubber although I can't find anything under the bonnet, it has done it for a while now

I had this on a car once. Turned out I'd picked up one of those supermarket carrier bags that blow around our roads and it was snagged on an exhaust clip and melting onto the hot exhaust.

Quite difficult to remove once they've started to melt......

well my 50 mile commute home last night didn't cause any funny smells (from the car!) I'm thinking that the plastic bag theory could be what caused it, will have to see if it happens again.

Thanks for the link Ebized, my exhaust needs re-hanging as its slightly higher on one side and virtually touches the bumper.

On my FTO I had a burning smell coming from the car, was very noticeable once getting out of the car after a run.

Looked underneath and there was something plastic (probably a carrier bag) stuck to my mongoose.

Took a bit of scraping to get it off there but made me feel 10 times better once I'd actually realised what it was.

Get on your hands and knees and have a good look! Can't do any harm if you don't touch anything, thats my motto!

I had a hole in the flexi pipe on my Y pipe so whenever I stood still for over 10 seconds the exhaust fumes would come up over the sides of the car.

It didn't smell like the fumes coming out of the exit pipes, it smelled more like burning but it went when I had my Y pip fixed.
