Race Valeting
I've had this car booked in now for a couple of weeks, the onwer had dropped the car round to me on the saturday ready for a 2 day detail. Unfortunatly due to the weather I only managed to get the car started yesterday and finished it off today with just the interior to do ij the morning. This was the car's before pics. Firstly the wheels were soaked in some AS Smart wheels while I got all my gear together, this was then agitated using a selection of brushes and then rinsed. Then the car was given a pre-soak with some warm citrus de-greaser to help loosen some of the dirt, this was left for a few mins then rinsed. Next up was to snow foam using some super snow foam, this was also left to dwell before being rinsed. Next up was a 2bm wash using a Z sponge and some Dodo born 2 be mild shampoo, this was then rinsed using my 29 ltr DI Vessel and a open ended hose to help sheet most of the water off. Next up was the claying, today I use the sonus green. Before: This was just after 2 panels on the driverside and the roof. Then another quick wash and rinse before being dried using a miracle drying towel and some LT. Heres some of the DEFECTS I was up against :buffer: A strange staining on the paintwork on the driverside wing... And lots and lots of swirls and scratches. I knew I had my work cut out with this 1, I did another XK8 in the same colour last year and also a Topaz XKR and they were pretty tough going to correct fully. I started out with a test patch and some FC+ & MENZ FF on a cutting pad this was working well but still alot of panels needing a good 2 hits to correct upto a good standard. Heres a few 50/50 shots corrected shots Once all the machining was finished the car was given an IPA wipedown to remove some of the oils left by the polishes. The car was then LP's using a foam applicator and buffed off panel at a time, this was followed up with a coat of dodo purple haze and left to cure for 20 mins before buffing. In the meantime I polished the exhausts using some wire wool and megs nxt metal polish. Before: Afters: The tyres were then dressed using some espuma RD50, then windows were then cleaned using my glass cloths and some megs glass cleaner. I then cleaned the leather on 1 seat to see what they came up like ready for doing all the interior tomorrow. Passenger side cleaned and drivers to do tomorrow, you can see the differnce in the pic. Cleaned using a elite car care leather brush and some mild g101, will be conditioned tomorrow using some sonus leather conditioner. Heres a few after pics of the car, Will be adding another coat of purple haze tomorrow and hopefully get some better sunlight shots, fingers crossed... A few nice reflection shots from in the garage: Thanks for looking, all comments welcome as per usual. Total time taken so far is 14 hrs.
