rtbiscuit
Does this ECU riddle not also depend on the model/age you have? If i've read right on here, early JDM's didnt cancel the mods out as others do. +1 So I have heard from a few reliable sources. Also heard that the nismo versions have a non-dumbing ECU. But then again, who can prove the Zeds stock ECU does cancel out mods. Maybe this was a lie started by ECU companies. when i reset an engine code for Throttle responce, we set up the car on the OBD II reader, with my JWT it showed throttle response at only 90%, the engine was not having to work as hard, because the JWT let more air in, it there just used less throttle. I wonder why people are saying the ECU adapts over a week then if it showed for you instantly? With the stock air filter did it show 100% Surely if it measures the air flow then it would try to restrict FI? (BTW I'm not arguing - just gathering info ) never tried with a stock air box, i think ekona is at some point going to try it out on his brothers car which is a stock coupe, as its ekona with the OBDII. mine could be because the throttle body may need replacing, as it was this item that threw up the CEL. but the light has not come back in nearly a month, so it could be that the ECU is compensating for the air filter, which had been on the car for a while, but we did do an ECU reset, but it still showed at 90%. Chris`I
Nice description on technosquare about how the ECU adapts. The do a flashing service which alters the parameters so allows for mods. http://www.technosquareinc.com/nissanintro.htm You wont see 100% throttle on even a stock 350z. Its not tuned to use 100% throttle as far as I can tell, it doesnt get anywhere near it, and it makes perfect sense to put a part in that is working well within its limits so thats what I'd expect. The throttle can flow more air than the engine needs, so it never needs to open 100% and doing so wouldnt make any difference as the engine doesnt want the extra air. With a remap, it'll use the extra air, but I doubt the throttle needs to be open 100% then either, but it will

Ian
Did you get a quote? No, everyone I've tried so far wont insure an FI Z at my age. Will try again in a few months when I hit
RobbieB
Yeah 25 is the next big drop, might happen. Good luck!
Chris`I
Yeah 25 is the next big drop, might happen. Good luck! Wouldnt count on it these days. Mine hardly fell at all at 25. Just keep your license clean and make no claims, thats the best way to keep the quote low. Also keep it in the garage if you can.

My insurance quote was £150 higher if I kept in the garage i found being married and a putting my wife on the insurance made mine plummet. insurers thinkif your married your wife must act like a safety function in the car, hitting you if you go to fast or are stupid (like mine does ) miles covered each year makes a big difference. i dropped from 12,000 to 9,000 a year and that helped. i spent ages on confused.com playing around with different options to find out how much each change dropped my insurance. i thought taking my wife off my insurance when i got the zed would make it cheaper, i was shocked when it went up in the quote, so i put her straight back on (doesn't mean i let her drive it, but the options there if we go out and oi fancy a drink. )

Also wouldnt trust confused.com. When I got my Leon, the cheapest I could get on there was £1200 but in reality I got it for £800 (20k business miles was the killer!). Adding a woman to the insurance is always a good idea, always lowers it. Although confusingly having my missus and mum on mine was more expensive than having one or the other. The missus won, so mum cant drive it! I guess what we are learning is you need to have a play with each insurers website and see how you can make it fall. rtbiscuit
i like to play them off one another, cos then i ring them and tell them the quotes i'm getting, must admit admiral have been my best bet at the moment, because i'm doing there 10 month multipliers to regain my NCB's used to use adrian flux, but found them more expensive last time. will have to do my usual ring round in august when the renewal comes up
matth76
My insurance went down too when I put my gf on it. I'm 32, 10yrs no claims, no points or claims and paying exactly £400 a year with Admiral. Some very silly quotes out there. Tesco quoted me over £1000 ! My insurance never went down when I hit 25, if anything only a couple of quid. In fact I remember ringing them up saying why it hadn't gone right down and they said it didn't make much difference. Same with all other companies I tried at the time. Best bet is to get a protected no claims and when you hit 30 you are paying a fair bit less. Pimm
I just renewed my policy but the bloke could not understand what model z i drove When i was phoneing around i kept being asked was it just a 350 or 350GT ?. Now before you say i know its not a GT4 so i said it is just a 350z but it has a GT pack and that confused him even more and me so i had to list what extras the GT pack comes with to get my cover to start as mine is not listed on the computer Has this happend to anyone else ?? tmJak
I almost forgot how this thread started - can't beat going off topic If you're going for pure performance and considering a tune after your bolt on mods, the drop in filters generally give the best results. Pop chargers are just for under bonnet looks and noise
xStric9x
You could always fit a plenum spacer as this will give you more mid-range power The ECU will not cancel this out as you are simply allowing more are into the chamber
