RB84
Hi all, I have read about this problem before and understand that it can be sorted in the short term by a swift smack to the left of the headunit above the knee pad etc (tried it, worked 1 in 15 times or so and for only a very short amount of time!). Unfortunately my car is out of warranty (53 plate) but Dorchester Nissan are asking Nissan for some idea of 'good will' help towards the fix/ replacement BUT would this problem be solved by a new headunit or is it more than that? The real reason I ask is that there is a headunit being advertised for sale on this forum and I wonder if this new headunit would solve the problem of the left channel sound loss? One interesting thing I have found is that the left channel will produce sound whilst playing CD for a while but any swift acceleration or hard braking and it goes again... is this the same problem as others experience or a modification of it? Any help/ thoughts are appreciated!! Cheers, Rich
M13KYF
a new/second hand unit would solve the problem or you could get your one repaired. See the discount section. Clarion repair the BOSE units. I think if getting a second hand one, you'll need to get it paired with the ECU at a Nissan garage. Someone else may be able to confirm this is the case. I don't know how much this costs. steve3000
Hello, It's a well known problem I'm afraid. The cause I believe is a poor internal connection between the CD changer unit and the headunit circuitry. Replacement with a brand new unit will solve the issue, but will be really expensive. If you do this, make sure it comes with a decent warenty. Replacement with a reconditioned unit (which is what Nissan will probably be offering you) should solve the issue, but again be careful and make sure you get a warenty, because a reconditioned unit may throw up other problems in the future. Replacement with a fully working second hand unit would also solve the issue, and probably be the cheapest option if you want to keep the BOSE setup - but unless the second hand unit has already been reprogrammed into 'delivery mode' by a dealer or audio electrician, you will need to get the second hand unit reprogrammed to link with the security system on your car (or it won't work!). There's also a trader on the forum who offers a reconditioning service to repair your old system (try a search), not sure if anyone's used them and what the costs are? RB84
Thanks for the replies Mike and Steve. Sounds like it's not as straightforward to buy the stereo from another 350 owner due to the 'delivery mode' being required. I will call Nissan and ask how much it would cost to get this sorted. Away from Nissan - would any ICE specialist be able to do it? I'm not particularly bothered with keeping the Bose. Is there one option that most people use to upgrade in the 350? It would be great if it had iPod connectivity too. Thanks again for your help, Rich
M13KYF
a FAQ here http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16403 should answer most of your questions. You will loose some bluetooth controls if changing the headunit
