THIS SHOWS THE REAR.....

you can d/l a manual

those are endlinks though, not ball joints ;)

there are a few examples of ball joints on the Z, so need to know what they are saying is split

fits in the bottom of the hub on either side. If one has torn, do yourself a favor, replace both...it's only a matter of time, as the rubber does get crusty over time. These need to be pressed in/out of the hub.

There is another one at the top of the A arm (where a arm bolts to hub arm)

There is another ball joint on the lower transverse link as well (I just replaced mine with NISMO units not long ago as my stock ones were torn). This arm is the one lower one with the bend in it in the picture below

I had a gander at this. Its the rubber tentshaped piece I point to below in the piccy. A knuckle

But you can't get it without the whole joint !!

So this little piece of rubber is £400 !!!!!!!!! :scare::scare:

Unkless anyone knows where you can just get the lower bit ??? :surrender:

we sell the Moonface Racing Roll Center kit, which replaces that exact piece. I have this fitted to my own car, as well as several members here.

Other than that, only other option is finding a used hub someplace. No one else sells that bushing by itself

they are $500US shipped for the set

How many zeroes? :headhurt::):scare:

I'm hoping there was a typo there.

Merry Xmas anyway :)

not a typo...pieces like this are always expensive

and much, much less labor costs vs replacing the entire hub assembly

Martin,

Who is saying that you have to replace the ball joint just because you have a perished dust cover ?

Hi Alex,

That the local 350z specialist I bought the car from.

I think the crux was you couldn't get the dust cover by itself

Tell me they are wrong :thumbs:

Merrx Ymas!!!

That's my point, why replace these parts only because of a perished dust cover.

I assume that there is no wear on the ball joint or that it has not failed its MOT.

If the only issue is a perished boot then I can only assume that the garage has marked this down as an advisory repair and nothing more.

The hub carrier does come complete with the ball joint but I have upgraded mine and I may have a few lying around so I will have a look over Christmas.

The boot is easy to replace and the balljoint is just a simple press fit.

But like I said at the start, why replace it. If it aint broke and all that.

The boots do serve a purpose but it is not cost effective to replace the whole hub carrier only because of a perished boot.

I will also talk nicely to my Nissan stores manager about this when I am in collecting my next batch of rear leds, probably Monday.

Also it wont be the first time that I have had to clean up and run some super glue around a perished or torn boot in situ. ;)

Cheers,

Alex.

If the original cannot be repaired then you might be able to find a replacement boot that will fit as there are lots of universal ones available.

http://www.southwalesprops.co.uk/propsh ... _joint.htm as an example.

Just replaced the front ball joints on my 200SX, Nissan said that you have to replace the whole knuckle but they were available in the US for $35 a side. Had a quick search but cannot see them for the 350 though.

Exactly the same issue as me, i have had to order the entire hub carrier :-( £305 delivered from japan all for a ball joint.

#Mine is knackered tho, loads of play, as well as a split boot...
