mut
hi guys, first post! now im in the market for a new car, the z is in my price range, i like the looks, and it all looks good on paper. the only thing thats holding me back is that i have a modded mini cooper S at the moment, which is rediculously fast for a mini and i want my next car to feel at least as fast as the mini. the mini 0-60 in probably a little over 6 seconds. i have driven a 3.2 TT, and it dosent feel nearly as excitin as the mini.. do you think ill have the same problem with a Z? mabe its just time to go for a test drive. oh and hows insurance with young (22) drivers? thanks, tom. WoREoD
0-60 should be below 6secs. Dont forget its RWD so its gonna be very different to your Mini! I used to Rally Escorts against Minis, so I'd say different = better! Cant help on insurance but Saga have been good for me Go for it! The sound alone will make you grin from ear to ear...... Sure the mini will feel more kart like, but the zeds going to slide and drift better! Just test drive it, you'll love it.... I'm loving mine more and more everyday!
laguna seca
the 350 is a great car out of the box standard. you will get used to the power quickly.if you want crazy mind blowing performance then you will have to invest a further 9k, and get the aps twin turbo kit fitted guarantee you will not be disappointed. good luck in your search for a replacement car. Guest prescience
or 4k for a super charger with similar performance;) and easily re-convertible to stock
speedball
The 350 is a good performer but does lack the punch that the turbo gives. I used to drive a R34 and I really miss the pull of that even though I think the 350 is faster. Don't go for the older Supra or skyline, old cars now, the 350 drives much better which you'll find out ona test drive, but the 350 does not feel fast at all even though it is! Removed
if it's just a matter of the famous "kick in the back" that turbo cars have, I don't see all this fuss about it. for a driving experience, linear power delivery results in a much more fluid drive and hence more enjoyable. That said, the APS kit doesn't have that much of a "kick" as the lag is minimal and the power delivery is again very linear (not too distant from a SC) so it's all good
laguna seca
or 4k for a super charger with similar performance untill you have driven both cars supercharged and turbo cars which i have dont quote that they give similar performance because a aps tt will pi$$ all over a supercharged Z simple as. torque wins races and the tt has bucketfuls of it.unlike a s/c Z. im not saying that a s/c is bad. its just no where near a turbo charged Z in that it dosent give the on road performance of a tt you get what you pay for. personally i wouldnt spend 4k on a s/c because you will be wanting more power.where as the tt has more than enough. teddyonholiday
Tom I too have a breathed on Cooper S (245 in theory) so I can vouch for the instant "feel" when the power is demanded, the Z however with a Supercharger is similar but runs out of additonal power quite quickly, but with a TT conversion its phenominal, however the 10k Val has indicated actually is probably on the low side if you want a reliable motor as much of the internals will need work or replacement. Best of luck with the test drive. It will still feel slow in terms of acceleration compared to the Mini initially due to the power to weight ratio but the Z has poise and stature when driven which the Mini hasnt as it just hangs in there as the speed increases, but the Z will comfortably handle all the excitement you can grab without too much of a worry. Guest prescience
A supercharger increases power output with revs - don't understand your comment there mate Some of the above statements are not correct in highlighting a very significant difference between what a TT can deliver and what a S/C can deliver http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread. ... ost1806492 The numbers shown are at the wheels, so add about 17% for flywheel in both cases
ashley
Just going back to what Speedball said, " the 350z does not feel fast at all even though it is"- When i test drove a 350z two weeks ago i could see the speedometer inreasing very quickly but it didn't feel fast,is that because the big engine just does it at ease or is it because i'm used to a different feeling when driving my current car which is a vauxhall astra coupe turbo. I will have to have another test drive i think because spending anything up to £34k is a big decision,i also have test driven a z4 3.0 (265 bhp) which i equally like the look of. ByteJuggler
ok, thanks guys, im gonna have a look around. gotta get rid of my mini first! i think its definatley test drive time, ill keep you posted. tom. mut, all I can say is, test drive one. Honestly, if your experience is anything like mine, you'll be sold 1 minute into the drive. I just started grinning maniacally soon after the test-drive started... This "grinnig inducing effect" of the zed seems to be quite common as well based on other zed owner's experience (suffice it to say that in my case the S2000 I also looked at didn't have nearly the same effect on me. Nice car but too much like hard work.) Anyway, I'm currently trying to sort my finances out, and decide whether to go new or used, as well as trying to decide which dealers are the "good" ones and so on... lee
im in the same boat end of day its time to move to a proper mesters car init, ive drove my mates and fell in love now im gettin one imported over , im also 22 go on line to elephant.co.uk there good, also if you are insured on any other cars tick the (do you drive other cars box) and put your mum and dad of older family on the policy its makes a differance saved me £300 doing that
hagar
careful with the t's and c's with elephant I was looking at swapping over to them and whilst they ask for you to list your mods and thus load the policy they dont cover them (their wording) i.e. I have a UK GT spec with Rays allows and azlien (spelling?) leather - all things that are dealer options and thus under their site require adding on the policy yet their very wording suggests this would not be covered - i.e. they would only replace for the base GT spec? I suppose its worth someone calling to confirm but I cant be bothered swapping from my current company
