adammitch69
Afternoon people. Noticed that my average MPG has dropped from 28 to 24. I drive the same miles each week consisting of early commute to Leeds driving like a saint on the M62 then playful driving on the weekend. My drop in MPG seems to co-inside with the recent freezing temperatures. Is this to be expected?? On the plus side my JWT appears to love the cold air :-) regars Adam
Pingu2
well cold air is denser, so you can get more of it into your engine, and thus you will need more fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio the same.. cant believe it would make such a large difference though! nixy
Mines definitely dropped a bit too - although I think I've quite simply been putting my foot down harder lately!
marzman
Yep - i've been driving like a tool this last month - but because of the lovely price of petrol nowadays!! Im enjoying it while i can! Plus, i've found this awesome road i can drive home on - its about 10mins out of my way, but its the best driving road around here - i only get out of 3rd gear on 1 part of it! My JDM average fuel pod has dropped from 12.1km/l, to 6.9km/l currently...! Sweeet.
nixy
how the hell did you get 12.1! Most i've had is about 8.9 and its dropped below that now!
IanS
engine will burn more fuel when it's very cold - less efficient start up. Once its warmed up could be slightly better as cold air is indeed more dense.
Chris`I
On the plus side my JWT appears to love the cold air :-) I have a feeling this is the real culprit Plus also as Ian says, colder engine will run the choke for longer so less efficient and burns more fuel. marzman
how the hell did you get 12.1! Most i've had is about 8.9 and its dropped below that now! I had a post about my fuel consumption a few months ago... i was very skint, so was driving very economically (i.e. never used my brakes!). It was actually pretty entertaining, and i was going faster around some corners, which i guess is more fun!

That is a great plan on saving your fuel bill by flying around the corners but what about those slick tyres you are running, they must need changing by now. IanS16
how the hell did you get 12.1! Most i've had is about 8.9 and its dropped below that now! +1.. mine's on 6.8 but I didnt have the car in the summer so I cant compare!
theman
12.1 is VERY good. That said I can average around 9-10 and mine is an auto and possibly pushing out circa 320bhp!
Jay
I am lucky if i see 9 lol! I norm sit about 7.
nixy
but the best thing about that is that none of us know without working it out what it really means so we can pretend we're getting a good deal!
IanS16
Just times it by 3 and you are about there. If that sounds too low, times it by 6!
200sx
Fuel economy will be lower when its cold. One of the factors being the air is more dense creating more drag. But also more air mass flow and more fuel so more power
Stew
Heated seats on, air con on to clear the screen, more short journeys as it's freezing, sitting the car on the driveway to warm up the interior before going anywhere..... I would have thought these wer the real culprits!

nixy
i'm defo putting my foot down more at the moment just in case I end up having to get rid of it! Might as well make the most of it while I can afford to!
