If only it was 4WD (or better RWD), I'd have been sorely tempted to wait for that instead of getting the Zed this year. I'd never consider buying an FWD performance car, regardless of how well they do actually handle.

Have to agree with you on this one bud, very disapointed, would be an awesome car if 4WD

thats the thing though... the rs does stand out from the st crowd... you wouldn't and couldn't mistake it... hopefully in the flesh the parts dont look too stuck on..i do like the green it comes in but i couldnt own that colour...maybe white or red i thinks....

you say that...i saw a new ST yesterday with a front splitter, those wheels and lowered and i thought it was an RS. Its only when he tried to get away from me i knew it wasn't :teeth:

why not buddy... the honda fd2 has shown time and time again that you can have fwd performance.. lets not even mention the Mugen rr.. both quicker than the Z around the twisties and with circa 60 bhp less than Z give or take depending on which model z you have...

-ho

I love the Clio 182 as a car to borrow every now and then (brother had one), but you never get the control or feel that you do from an RWD setup. Never. Feel is everything, and when you've got two wheels doing both steering and power it's never going to be as pure.

Granted a good FWD car can be better than an average RWD one, but I know which I'd prefer to own.

+1. The feeling of control as you feed in the power at the apex of a corner with a powerful RWD car can never be anywhere near as good with a FWD.

exactly my thinking, and something that was mentioned in another post about MCS

I think you guys need to read ecoty this year and tell me again that fwd can not match a rwd for feel drive and speed. quote 'the steering. brakes. power delivery ride and handling will put a smile on anyone's face' I ain't going to disagree with them.

I think you guys actually need to drive a good fwd car and get ever your prejudice's

What's EVO got to do with anything? I'm perfectly capable of deciding that I prefer RWD to FWD on my own, thanks.

Like I said, I really like the 182 but would never own one. That good enough a FWD car for you?

its not prejudice, its an educated and well informed choice through ownership and experience.

I've owned:

- 306 gti6 (spankingly good FWD car, one of the first cars to have a 6speed box, and used to **** over most other cars)

- CIVIC type S

Driven:

- civc type R current and last gen

- 205 GTI

- Golf GTI mrk 1,2,3, 4 and 5

also had:

mr2 roadster Mid engine, rear wheel

and out of all of them, i'd pick a rear wheel drive car over them anyday

i loved the GTI6 and it was a great car, handled well, as did alot of the other ones i've driven, but they don't compare for feedback and enjoyment over a rear wheel car.

if i ever had to go back to a hatchback, i'd get a BMW 135i, just because its rear wheel drive.

I'm afarid I can't see the Focus RS being up there with the great FWD cars like the FD2 etc. Its bound to have masses of torque that without electronic intervention will corrupt the steering. Honda's highly strung but low-torque engines suit a FWD application.

im not saying that you should prefer this over that n whatever... everyone has there own opinion its just your statement about feel and purity is simply not true....proven by megane r26, r26.r, mini cooper jcw, dc2/dc5 teg, fd2, Mugen RR and the modulo type r. yes granted i know high powered fwd cars are a power scrabble.. believe me i had a 300 bhp at the wheels in my astra vxr...i know what its like...

my personal preference is a light weight MR setup...

i can tell that you guys have already made your mind up about the focus rs but all i can say is.. hang on it may suprise you..

i don't know why but im going to have some faith in ford and they wont release this car as a torque steer monster and will somehow sort it out before its released..

I think it is a compromise car.. needs to be 400bhp and 4wd to make it relevent.... all it says to me is not bad.... should, like the RS Cosworth's of old be screaming

"MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE"

Ahem.... but it doesn't.. it looks like an apology for a hot ford.. even the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth looked butch compared to that.. and the Escort Cosworth looked like it would give that a good rogering..

Fast fords should be bulgy, loud, brash a bit rough and and blunt instruments like Jordan or Jodie Marsh ... not subtle, understated lithe and reserved like Keira Knightley.....

Still.. i would :)
