martinmac
Not good news at all unless the international community gets this sorted soon. One major has already decided to sail its tankers around the cape rather than risk transiting offshore Somali waters to get to the Suez canal. This means that we are effectively back in the same situation as during the Suez closage. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld ... 5455.story Piracy has continued around the world during all of the time I have been at sea and no solution has been found yet. Ekona
Where's Steven Seagal when you need him? He'd sort this piracy malarky out.

martinmac
May have to change my Avatar. When I was a cadet some of our crew had to go an man a cargo ship off Lagos to get her into port after a piracy attack, what a mess. http://www.newspaperarchive.com/Landing ... ivory&img=\\na0027\5427071\20044970_clean.html
bronzee
Hmm, I wonder if there are plots afoot to lift our prices again. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Stew
Unfortunately quite often locals feel like they are missing out on the wealth that oil creates in poorer countries. I've been in some dodgy places when you have to have an armed guard with you as an expat oil worker. The pirates or militants couldn't do much to me due to the nature of completions I ran into oil wells however the guys on tankers have crude at their finger tips so become easy targets.
