sl114
As everyone has been saying, dont pay out at all. I would see if the impact hasnt affected anything else and get the council to pay for a full examination of the car. You will be surprised to see what a hole like that can do to other parts of your car.
breay
Right guys, what do you think the implications would be if i went ahead and bought 2 new wheels? I need to buy 2 anyway but obviously i want the council to pay for them, has any one had any experience with this kind of thing in the past? If i buy them and the claim is accepted wont they just refund me the money? Or do they accept the claim and then pay who ever direct to supply me with new wheels? Im soo confused! As said, that could be risky - but if you can't wait get at least one written confirmation from bona-fide wheel repair specialists that the wheels are beyond repair and keep those wheels as 'evidence'. Why not wait to see whether any other damage is revealed - it is best you put one claim in for the lot, if necessary supported by a qualified engineer's report to verify the claim being made. Submitting claims in stages will not help you and the Council will want to see the estimates for the repairs/replacements being claimed. If they see you have replaced items before professional opinions were obtained they may well resist payment. Check carefully what their procedures are before making a hasty decision you might come to regret.
SunsetZed
I'm afraid I agree with everyone else, don't take the chance of buying new ones, I know it might not look good but I'd recommend putting the originals on, its simply not worth the risk. breay
Well just had the car up in the air on a ramp, after 30mins of head scratching and using scaffold planks it reversed up -just. The rear wheel has a small flat spot on the inside edge, but the inside front looks ok. All bushes, balljoints etc look to be as normal which is good news, looks like i just need 2 new wheels and tyres just to be safe, and a wheel alignment to check that my tracking isnt out. Weird thing is we checked the tyre pressures and i havnt lost any air even after a big impact and with the damaged lips as they are???? how strange! GIXXERUK
the tyre bead sits inside the rim so i wouldnt expect it lose any air unless it pinched the tyre
M350ZB
Personally i would hold out for the wheels as they will prob try and use every excuse not to pay out, but also include any other damage to the car, and what about them skirts, make sure you include them, as i assume they are quite expenisve, un-less repairable ? ? ? Sarnie
I'd just buy two new wheels straight away as, if the council don't pay out then your gonna have to buy them anyway..........

breay
I think im going to hold back for a bit first as i still havnt received the claims form! My mechanic advised me to claim for 2 tyres as well just incase they have internal damage, but im sure they are ok, but i really dont fancy paying out for 2 new wheels AND tyres only to find out the council rejects my claim. If they accept the claim for wheels and tyres then brilliant, if they reject then i will just buy 2 new rims and reuse the tyres to save myself some money. As for the damage to the near side skirt it actually isnt that bad just a scratch and chipped paint which is all underneath so therefore not visible, so im not that bothered really, but i will get a quote for the damage to see if i can claim to have it repaired. It sounds like i have a good case so fingers crossed it all gets sorted quick. I just want to say a massive thank you to all you guys for your help and advice and ill keep you posted with the outcome

If you have a blow out I'd imagine there would be a bit more damage than a dinged rim and sideskirt. (saying that though i'd probably do the same ) Good luck in getting your money back anyway mate! Martin W
I clobbered some rubble on the M4 ealrier this year, an djust handed the whole mess to my insurers to sort out. 2 Rays, 2 tyres, 2 sets of susepension, exhaust, and Cat later.... The bill came to somthing like £8500. (New Under car really...) Now my problem is changing Insurers... but have you tried them? Let them sue the council... they are used to it just a thougth!!
