hotrain69
hi, as i'm still in the search for my first zed and want to get it right. i just wanted to ask whether most people tend to buy zeds from other individuals or from dealers? would buying from a dealer guarantee more reliable cars mechanically wise or would it not matter as most probably wont know the zed in too much detail to look after it while its on the forecourt? thanks in advance for your advice. Beavis
Got mine private but it was only a year old and 3000 miles in the clock, so it was still under warranty.
MrLizard
brought mine from a dealer but i would buy private had it been under warranty still. (and im not just saying that cause im selling mine )
cfoster
From experience in looking myself for the last few weeks I would definitely steer clear or garages, only main Nissan dealers. I've looked at 2 Azure blue ones that have been bought from main agents (one being from nissan and another part ex from VW) and both have been awful. Got me thinking that if they were good examples there is no reason why Nissan themselves wouldnt put them on their forecourt?! private ones are good as well as they will be a bit cheaper and you can generally tell how well they've been looked after going by the owner etc etc... I'm looking at a privately owned one (from here as it happens!!) tomorrow so fingers crossed it'll be the one for me!!!!! Chris

(and im not just saying that cause im selling mine ) of course not!! haha did you have any problems with getting it from the dealer? would you still recommend getting a trusted mechanic to look over it? just not sure how much a dealer would be able to tell me about the car. Chris good luck with it tomorrow! i have exactly the same concerns as you on the dealer front. but have spotted one that interests me so may have a look. bit pricey at the moment but hoping to be able to knock it down. Trev-the-Rev
I think Chris hits the nail on the head here. Why would a Nissan dealer give someone else a potentally profit making vehicle when they could keep it themself. Generally speaking, main dealers cars have to meet quite stringent requirements from bodies such as the MAA and the manufacturer for which they are a franchise when selling used vehicles. The exception to this of course is if you were looking at a private sale from a member on this forum then there is likely to be some threads that would provide you with some insights into the condition, etc, of the car. hotrain69
i've got my eye on this one. wonder if any of you have any thoughts? http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/ww ... eage=20000
cfoster
Both of the ones on independent garage fronts have been awful, badly painted / repaired and even the cars weren't in very good condition, the last one I looked at was an 04 with only 24k, looked more like 124k!!!! Panels out of line etc etc, the guy even told me on the phone that he cant fault it - he blind or something!! I've hopefully got a good deal on the one tomorrow, plus he's a friend of mine so trust him (i think!!!!!!)!!!! I dont keep cars for very long mate so if its clean and i get a good deal, 6 months down the line no doubt it may be for sale again!!!!!!!! I brought mine from a sytner owned sports car specialist, who bring in what they deem as decent nissan mechanics to service there cars, mine was sat next to a DB7 which was being serviced by an aston mechanic at £1000 a day for a few days...If they were willing to pay for proper mechanics it gives you confidence. Never missed a beat, but i would prefer to go back there in the future rather than look else where.

MrLizard
it is low, the car has only just been reduced to that price, i work about 200 yards from that showroom at the innovation centre, yes i used the warwick branch and dealt with seth directly. That black one currently sat next to a tasty

Leeroy
Do you guys rate the AA inspections? Are they worth £140 (member rate) for the basic check? I'm tempted to not bother but my only concern is that the car may be accident repaired and not recorded, which I'd hope the check would pick up. Obviously I'd get an HPi too.... Trev-the-Rev
An HPI check will reveal if the car has suffered severe damage. The rest really is down to how confident you feel you are in assessing the overall condition of a car.

As long as the car is straight, service is spot on and price is right it wouldn't make a difference to me. The shite dealer nitwork wouldn't make me pay me for a car because it was from a dealer though.

Depends if you are a member with them or not, expect to pay around £140 but its worth every penny. They are there for like 3 house checking every inch of the car. Only thing they dont do is cam belt for obvious reasons. Never pay the private price on face value, haggle haggle haggle. I normally get my friendto call them up and offer them a really cheap price to get them humming and erring, then Ill come in with a £100 more and offer it there and then, normally works
