Offside rear speaker faulty (I think)

I was driving the other day listening to music when all of a sudden all I could hear was extreme static through the radio. It was so bad I had to switch off the stereo. Later on someone suggested that I move the speaker balance to either left or right and see if this resolves the problem.

 

It seemed to resolve the problem when I moved the balance to the left (nearside). It appears to be a problem with the rear speaker behind the drivers seat.

 

Can this be repaired or do I have to buy a new speaker? If so how much am I looking at?

it has happened in the past with the near side speakers. This problem originates from the bose system itself. Repair is a option. Forum Discount available.

Ok thanks but do all these cars have the bose system? I wasn't aware I had it.

 

Where can I get it repaired at discount, bearing in mind I live in Scotland? How much will it cost approximately?

I'm not saying it is defo the Bose but perhaps a call to them to see if they have had the same problem and repaired it would be a starter for 10

hmm... sounds more like the speaker to me, either poor connection or a knackered coil on the speaker, usually the bose problem stops the speaker working, i would swop the speakers over to test it, you can get to the rear speakers without tools, just by removing the plastic panels
