Z Boy
Just taken the Z for an MOT and it failed on emissions, due to the high flow cats. Don't suppose anyone has a spare one lying around that I could borrow for a day?

Z Boy
Damn, that's not good then. The engine light is always on and I had it checked by Nissan and they said it's due to the aftermarket cats. So it could be a duff sensor then? Any idea how to check and how much a fix is? Thanks. Andy
If you get stuck, I can lend you some cats for the mot. Would agree on the above comments though, worth getting it checked out.
Z Boy
So I need to get the lambda's checked out...anything else to get them to look at while I'm at it?! And cheers Andy, I'll let you know!

If the engine light is on it indicates you either have de cat pipes as opposed to high flows or that a lambda is malfunctioning. Looking at the pipe section does not always give an indication of having cats on the car as some of the decat pipes have a resonator section which looks very similar to the untrained eye as a cat. bigphil
to help with identification. in the pic below top high flow cat middle resonated decat bottom full straight decat
Z Boy
Thanks for the pics guys. The guy I bought it off reckons it definitely has a high flow cat, but I'll check when I can to see which one it looks like. If it's a fauly Lambda is that gonna cost me mega bucks? Digsy
This was Danny's car. I'm surprised you didn't fit them, Phil.
Z Boy
Yeah it was Limiters car if that helps, dunno if anyone knows what he had put on it!?
Trev-the-Rev
Nemesis did some work on the car but I'm not sure exactly what.
Z Boy
I know that engine wise the only modifications are the Nismo exhaust and the cats, besides that (and a plenum spacer) it's basically standard. Just had a P1 or P2 service (can't remember which lol), would they have changed the o2 sensors then?
bigphil
This was Danny's car. I'm surprised you didn't fit them, Phil. no we didn't do any work on Dannys car. Lambdas would not be touched on a service.
Trev-the-Rev
Only if they were faulty and probably not without notifying you first. Even if they didn't get your permission, they will be itemised on the invoice.
Z Boy
I'll see if I can get them to check them out then, as I can't think what else could be causing the emissions to fail.

200sx
Just a quick question from a newbe, but why would the engine warning light come on with a decat? Are there any sensors down stream of the cat?
200sx
Just had a look at the service manual and it looks like there is a 2nd o2 sensor intergrated into the cats. I am guessing the high flow cats don't have a lambda sensor build in?

Stew
They plug in don't they? My light came on now and then when I put on plenum, pop charger and Exhaust. I did a reset and hasn't even come on again.
Ian
My light comes on every 3k miles. I have decats that were rebuilt into hi flow cats though.
Andy
The sensors screw into the cats then the cables loop round and hook into holders then clip into the connecters. Just as a point of reference, I have K8N Typhoon Kit, Plenum, Hi-Flo Cats and Nismo exhaust and have never had problems.
