Pagnobito
I hadn't noticed, it was my wife that said she could hear a police car, but it is actually a whine from the gearbox when approaching roundabouts and such and changing down, it sounds like a distant siren. Is that normal? I also get a reverbing whine noise at motorway speed but I won't be able to get the dealer to test it as they won't drive that fast. If my car had much more than 4500 miles on it I would have said a wheel bearing.
Trev-the-Rev
Doesn't sound normal to me. If the dealer won't drive the car at a speed that will provoke the noise why not try recording it and playing it back to them.
Stew
Offer to demonstrate the fault to the dealer if they won't do it.
Pagnobito
I think my wording could have been better, I have not actually seen the dealer about this yet, but I reckon they would be unwilling to drive at the speed required, so yes I have the option to record or get them to come out with me. I will give them a call, I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this noise which is why I asked if it was normal.
