maz77
hi guys i have a 2005 UK spec 350z roadster. it had sustained some water damage to the interior. everything is in good working order apart from 2 things: 1/ the airbag light is on. if been tols the sensor under the seat needs checking. 2/ the external lights front and back + wipers dont work, however the washers on the wipers are working fine and all the external lights work fine if i disconnect the brown clip from the body control module. i suspect the car needs a new body control module. does any one have any ideas on how to fix those 2 issues. your advice is much appreciated
Zummertor
Welcome, You are into true electrical specialist territory is my guess and therefore beyond me. Could be BCM but I'd try and rule out a few other things first with a electrical specialist, sounds quite a bit of water to do that. Pop up a post of intro in the appropriate section and I suspect a few others will be along before too long who may be able to shed some light on this one. Beavis
to the forum, repeat posts deleted The problem with roadster's in the UK when it is raining, you need to put the roof up. Think you will need a dealer/specialist to look into this, if it is the BCM then i doubt you will repair it. Also moved this topic to here, as its your first post. Chris`I
Hope its not the BCM. I got mine replaced on warrenty and they said it would be about £500 if I had to pay for it Affraid to say that it looks like that is shot though. Get it to an auto electrician and see what they can find.

maz77
after days and nights of work and reading the service manual back and forth it turns out to be a faulty BCM. now i need to buy one, get it fitted and coded according to the dealer (cost £750 or there abouts according to dealer). the BCM it self will take between 3 to 6 weeks to get delivered, although mike in essex mentioned that he could get it from amsterdam in 1 week. any suggestions for a cheaper or faster deals would be much appreciated. GIXXERUK
breakers ? isnt someone breaking a car on here or ebay dunno if the roadster bmc is the same as the coupe ? http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15871 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/nissan-350z-parts ... 286.c0.m14
Chris`I
3-6 weeks is BS! Mine was shipped in under a week. Price does seem about right for stealers, as I said I was told they were over £500 for the unit alone. I suggest you try breakers, but I'm not sure if the BCM is coded to the car, or the keys are coded to the BCM? I had to take my spare key when I went to pick up the car as it had to be coded again for the BCM.
maz77
i have been told that BCM needs coding. i am not sure if its possible to re-code a used one off a breakers car!!!! any thoughts on that?

Guest prescience
i have been told that BCM needs coding. i am not sure if its possible to re-code a used one off a breakers car!!!! any thoughts on that? The keys need recoding to the BCM that is for certain teddyonholiday certainly will know. If you PM him but get no response, PM me I can give you an e-mail I have for him If you twisted my arm for an opinion I'd say another BCM will work except for the keys recoding but withthe proviso that the donor car spec needs to be as close to your's as possible (e.g. my confidence level that a JDM BCM would work in a Euro car is much lower)
teddyonholiday
I cannot agree that the JDM and the Euro BCM will work they have different mapping of function and have different levels of security (NATS 3 versus NATS 4) The symptoms are indeed a fault in terms of BCM function but I would look closely at the signals (not continuity) from the multi switch. It would appear to have lost the signal at level two and there for will not recognise any further switch modes. The Brown Clip you describe that allows the function to start would be the Earth wire ? this would indicate that the signal path is being shorted to earth and the BCM cannot see the signal as it is being mirrored on earth, when the earth is removed it can see the signal on the input wires. I would at this point post a pic but the board setting are preventing me doing this. I will email to your Dorian OK. Teddy. This leads me to believe that the problem is likely to be in the switch or column area and not in the BCM as this would appear to be working or the wipe and wash etc would not work regardless of what is connected as they can only be "turned on" by receiving a phased wave signal and not just a voltage. Best of luck but make sure you are using an oscilloscope to measure and not just a multimeter as the impedance will smother any signals. Chris`I
where did you get yours from chris? Nissan Basingstoke mate, guess they were good for something after all! They had it on back order and it took about 5 days to come in, if that.
maz77
sounds like a reasonable suggestion to check the switch and the column. thats will be the next step subject to me finding an oscilloscope. chris 5 days to get the BCM is quite good compared to what i have been told by at least 5 main dealers. i messaged the guy on ebay for his BCM and hope its still available (fingers X).
