Kai
Anyone fitted a radar detector to their zed? I am thinking about it and would appreciate some feedback and recommendations. Ideally, I do not want a mass of wires all over the place and I do not need satnav with it as my zed already has that fitted. It also needs to be easy to install because I am pretty useless at all that sort of stuff. Kai
Gus
Do you actually mean a radar detector, or are you also considering the GPS based fixed camera warning ones ? Lots of people have the Origin B2 which is GPS based. I had one until recently - was very good and easy to install. Changed it for a Snooper which also has the SatNav - fantastic piece of kit Gus
Kai
Yes, I mean detectors that can let me know about fixed cameras and also Police hand-held radar guns. I don't need the satnav facility as I already have it. Kai
Guest prescience
This should help with a Road Angel install; Origin is also straightforward http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=

Kai Be aware that most of the hand held guns are Laser these days, as they can target a small area a lot more accurately ( ie further away, so less chance for you to see them and brake ). Also, if you do get a Laser detector, and it registers then basically you're already caught at that speed, no chance to slow down, as it is more or less an instant reading. WoREoD
Aren't the Laser Detectors ilegal to use, or about to become so? (Just checking!) JohnK
Gus
Don't think so - Laser Jammers are definitely illegal though Gus
Guest prescience
Laser detectors are perfectly legal. Laser jammers are less clear cut. The LRC100 ======= I believe they have been several attempted prosecutions on this on the charge or Perverting the Course of Justice and Only one (a long time ago) that was actually pursued (and I think won) against a Welsh guy who repeatedly drove about 9 or 10 times under a bridge where he knew the cops were - which was asking for trouble. Certainly a more recent case against a guy in Northamptonshire (I think) looked to be proceeding and was then dropped. The LT400 ====== As far as I know (and I need to check because I lost the link in a recent PC crash) this is legal because it is truly able to double as a garage door opener. I know of no prosecutions with this. For info, I believe the cops do check occurrences out and the way that it works is that a) They lase you and the jammer fires and a 'NULL' detect is logged on the PNC. They lase you on a subsequent occasion and a NULL detect is again registered and this second NULL detect is followed up by a home visit to check the car in question. As I say I am not aware of any successful prosecutions with the LT400 - but I am sure someone can prove me wrong STOP PRESS http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/laserpropark.htm
Revsport
Detectors are ok though there is talks about banning the ones wothout sat nav. Similar to jammers as you can still get away with one if you have an electric garage door that is remote operated. You have to prove it though. Removed
I have the B2 and find it very useful! Also, I did quite a stealth install so no wires showing for me
steve_b
Kai, What GPS do you have since you can get POI's databases that show camera and their limits. I use this site with my TomTom on PDA: http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/ and http://www.poiedit.com/ or if Go then http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/tomtom-go-poi.php Steve Yes, I mean detectors that can let me know about fixed cameras and also Police hand-held radar guns.
