Nissan Future (All discussions Nissan)

Recommended Posts

They're not building anything to make me want to go into their showroom.  Its all mumsy pretend SUVs.  And expensive.  With awful depreciation.  And most touch surfaces are flimsy plastic crap.  That goes for most manufacturers not just Nissan.  But mostly for me its about not having any compelling reason to buy a new car, since covid I now mostly work from home, so I now just have a 20 year old Toyota 4x4 for daily stuff (shopping, tip runs, carting the dogs around) and the Z for a toy.  Car designers have forgotten about creating desire, without which my wallet is staying closed.

Compare the Nissan range to the Peugeot range. Now neither make anything I would personally buy, but the French stuff is modern, unique, and stands out: the Jap stuff is bland, dull and boring. You can argue about quality if you want, but for buyers they’d rather have something interesting than generic.

Nissan are a dead brand as far as I can see with what they have now and forthcoming.

My take on it is no brand considered the consequences of covid, a cost of living crisis, the end of 10+ years of free finance, and consumers not wanting EVs.

They were all convinced the gravy train would never end and they all got it completely wrong.  How most Chief Execs still hold their jobs is mind boggling.

Unfortunately its all going EV. If UK was a tropical country youd bank on Ethanol to keep ICE going. Even in the Sports segment. Theres new players in line like Longbow. Their concept looks interesting. Even the hypercars are hybrid now. Thats where it'll end up I'm guessing. Also the new Z didnt get much interest here. I saw a few imported GR86. Tbh With the low interest in the sports car segment I cant blame them for concentrating on SUVs. Theyre in dire straits and need to recover.

But if Nissan had vision or a bit of volume sales they would have enough cash to invest like Toyota to make new petrol sports cars albeit with a lower displacement. MR2, Celica and new LFA (most likely Hybrid). With next gen 86 being in joint development with Mazda. The changes required and hoops needed to bring new ICE cars that dont sell huge numbers not worth it.

Nissan market share has been lost To Chinese phonemakers and Chinese EVs. Thats their fault.

What could have been Nissan now belongs to Xiaomi, BYD and SAIC MG.

Xiaomi released a 4 door saloon in April 2024. They just sold their 300,000th car few days ago lol. Something Nissan could have done. Automated factory. Press one button start to finish.

New CEO lets see what he proposes next. Most likely going to be a smaller compact hatchback. I doubt itll be ICE when Renault already have a hatchback thats EV. To survive as a business now you need to diversify. Nissan didnt go full steam ahead with their EV side and poor quality was abundant. So now theyre struggling to find a way back.

The quality of Chinese EVs that I have seen would make even Austin Rover turn over in their grave.  The Chinese have invented disposable cars.

Ten years from now electric cars will be a thing of the past, that's what I 🤔 EV is a stepping stone to something else but don't ask me what

Sales are high in Asia though. Even in countries with high taxes. The BYDs, MGs have had decent reviews.

Youre not going to survive in todays market without an EV/Hybrid division. Fine if EVs go the way of 3D Tvs in 2035. This moment in time 28% market share with Model Y doing the highest numbers in the West. Funny thing is people in certain countries with lack of stable Electricity are still buying Teslas. Lol

EV goes away in 2035 but we are in the UK. Youre still going to pay £995 road tax for your funky ICE sports car regardless and the Irish will pay £3000. Because the govts can charge under the guise of climate.
