Window not auto up

Hi guys

New to forum and also only recently became a Z owner (about time). Been using this forum a bunch to help solve all the small problems that I’ve encountered already. Without you guys i’d probably still be struggling my way through the first issue 😅

As the title states, I’m struggling with the auto up feature on my passenger window. I’ve tried the following:

1. Window switch reset procedure (by pressing that

little black button and opening the window - from the guide on this forum)

2. checked the door closed switch (interior lights of the car switch off when I close the door - so it must be good?)

This is what happens: I open the door, the window drops down a bit. I close the door, nothing. I open the door again, it drops down by the same amount. I can keep doing this until the window is fully open. Kinda funny, but gets tiring real quick.

Note: window operates perfectly when using manual controls. Also, not sure if this helps in any way, but the passenger window seems to drop down about double the distance that what the driver window does when you open the door

Can’t seem to find any other info on what I can try next. Any guidance would be appreciated

cheers

Rob

Hi buddy have you tried replacing the window motor?

Motor seems to operate perfectly when using the window controls (up and a down). It’s super smooth.

The issue must be related to the controls (either a switch that I’m unaware of, or…) or possibly related to not do the window switch reset correctly (I don’t fully trust that little black button that you must hold in)

Is there any particular reason for suggesting the motor replacement, or is it more of a “just to rule it out” suggestion? Reason for asking - I want to try all the free options first before spending any, hopefully unnecessary, money of the car.

Are you sure it's supposed to auto up on the passenger side: mine doesn't.

It's auto down both sides auto up drivers only.

Ah forget that: just misunderstood op!

Odd, as my drivers side is auto up & down as per the 'A' on the switch, but the passenger side is not auto up or down. I'm sure that's how they are. I did read on here a few years ago that getting a drivers door switch with both switches being 'A' auto, meaning both windows are auto, but that left the switch permanently live once the ignition is turned off.

By “auto up/down” I’m not referring to the switch features where you pull the switch all the up/down to have to window fully open/close itself.

I’m referring to the scenario where the window automatically opens a little bit when you open the door and then goes back up after you’ve closed the door.

The issue is that this works on my drivers side door, but on the passenger side the window goes down but doesn’t go back up when the door is closed.

Hope that clears up the confusion a bit

I wonder if the difference is roadster v coupe as the windows drop for the roof operation.

I’d imagine that feature will be the same for all models as its purpose is to protect the window from damage when closing the door

To reset them, just use the normal window buttons, start with the windows full closed.

Hold the button down to open the window, keep it held until you hear a click (15 secs or so), then do the same going up - hold it up until you hear a click.

Do the same on both sides and this should fix your issues.

No luck I’m afraid. Thanks for the input though
